onzies and maybe a thin blanket. if your not comfortable with them just wearing that then just get some of the thin pajamas. they make some just for summer. i know walmart has some cute flowery ones for girls. i havent looked at little boy stuff
I am going to do sleep n plays and Summer Infant swaddles at first. We have central air so I think it is cold in our apartment and it makes no difference if it is summer and winter.

Farrah Ann arrived May 4, 2012- 6 weeks early! 5 lbs 6 oz. and 19 1/4 inches
We used snap front kimono style t-shirts and a swaddle wrap for my DD, who was born in July. The kimono shirts made those middle of the night diaper changes a piece of cake.
I will probably be doing onesies and gowns with a light blanket..the gowns are really nice when you have to change diapers in the middle of the night..

My mom recommended the 2 pack sleeper gowns with the elastic at the bottom. They are soft and pretty lightweight and they let some air up the bottom. They also make for quick and easy changes in the middle of the night.
It will depend if this baby likes to be swaddled. My son hated to be swaddled so he just slept in a cotton sleeper. If she likes to be swaddled, I will probably use a onsie and swaddle. Our upstairs gets pretty warm in the summer, although if we need to we can just turn the temperature down.
It took 3 1/2 long years, but we finally got our little miracle!

DD was born in September when it was still pretty hot and slept in the lightweight footed pj's. We loved the ones with zippers because they were much easier to deal with during the night than snap pj's. We hated the gowns because they never stayed down to cover her feet and newborn socks don't stay on well either.

I bought these awesome muslin sleep sacks from target, and LO will wear a short-sleeved onsie under it. The muslin is super soft and light. I also have muslin swaddling blankets if LO wants to be swaddled.

sames! a light t-shirt under a cotton flannel receiving blanket, wrapped in a swaddle. if i felt it was extra chilly b/c of a/c, i would simply lay an additional receiving blanket on top of him.
I'm planning on using a light cotton sleep sack or sleep gown (the ones that don't close on the bottom), or just a diaper and then swaddle her in a light cotton blanket (depending on how warm/cool the night is). We live in New England so it's usually pretty bearable at night in the summer with just the windows open.

I agree with previous posts. My LO is due in June and I plan to do onsies with swaddle (when it works/or is needed) or the gowns because they are so easy for changes. I like the idea of the short sleeve t's as well with a swaddle.

DS was in a onesie & swaddled during summer. He never seemed too cold or too hot so we'll do the same for this lil guy (due 4 days after DS' b-day so we're looking at the same type of temps)
Re: What do newborns wear to sleep in the summer?
my boys either wore a light weight (like tshirt material) "sleep and play suit" the kind that zip up or just a onesie depending on how hot it was

There are also some styles of the sleep and plays that are thinner material and aren't footed which make them cooler for summer.

We're also going to do kimono shirts and muslin swaddle blanket and or Woombie type swaddler.
I have not had luck with gowns with either of my kids...the bottom bunches up at the waist.
