IVF Ladies

I have a quick question for you all.  I know that everyone has different meds, but I'm trying to get a round about amount of how much mine may cost through my rx coverage so please do tell, what meds you took and the strength.  We havent had a follow up with our RE yet and I am anxious to try and guess a round about amount.  Thanks Big Smile

Re: IVF Ladies

  • My paperwork says to expect between $2500 and $3500 for meds.

  • It depends on dose and how many days you stim in addition to the type of medication. My clinic says to expect $2500-5000 for stims. I was on 600iu Follistim and human growth hormone for 12 days and exceeded the upper end of that range.

Mine said between $3-6000. Luckily, I got around $3000 for free. Still had to pay over $1000 OOP though and I'm expecting to be on basically the lowest possible dose due to risk of OHSS.

All I know right now is that I have 6 vials of 450 Gonal-f, 1 vial of 310 (she may have read it to me wrong, since I don't know if this exists), 5 vials of Cetrotide.

In the $1000 is Menopur, PIO, estrace, valium, Vicodin, and antibiotics for me and DH. Not sure of the amounts. Not included yet is the trigger.

  • I was on long lupron, follistim and low dose hcg and it was $2000.
  • For the price that you ladies paid, was that after rx coverage or OOP? The paperwork they gave me said between 3-5k, but Im assuming that's OOP.

  • I think regardless of meds and dosages it still comes in around $2500-$4000 as often with lower doses you stim longer

  • I just happen to have my pharmacy invoice in front me me, so here you go. I am all OOP.

Leoprolide Acetate (Lupron 2 week kit) - $108.54
    Folic Acid - $2.36
    Desamethasone - $9.92
    Doxycycline - $23.18
    Menopur - $365.00
    Novarel - $59.90
    Estradiol/Progeserone Suppositories - $27.00
    Progesterone in Oil - $61.96

    Total = $657.86

Now... I was lucky to have a donation for half my Menopur and all my Follistim. If I had to pay OOP for those, it would have been an additional $2200.

The value of all my meds is about $3000 which seems to be pretty standard.

Even if your insurance does not cover most of the meds, they should cover some things like PNV, antibiotics and steroids.

    Hope that helps!

  • My paper work says between 3 and 6k. I am 100% OOP for fertility meds and spent about 3k on mine. Some were covered under my regular plan (doxycycline, prednisone, progesterone, BCPs, Lovenox, Estrogen pills and patches). Not covered : Follistim, Ganirelix, Ovidrel. You will more than likely get more than you need as they will order enough for the longest average cycle but I am anticipating needing my left overs... Your RE can give you the amounts of what she/he plans on you taking for your cycle - the amount of the FSH you get will vary widely (I used 175 units of follistim a day but some may use 400 a day).

  • The total for my meds without insurance was about 3k.  With rx coverage it came in around $180.  This included lupron, estradiol, PIO, menopur, 3 Gonal F RFF pens, and HCG.

If your clinic has given you a list of your meds, you may be able to log in to your insurance's pharmacy benefit website.  Mine lets me put in the exact meds and it tells me if they're covered and what the copay will be.
