I'm curious how this name is/can be pronounced. Seems Sandor is Hungarian and pronounced "SHAWN-door." Sander is Swedish and pronounced "SAUN-der."
I always thought Sandor was pronounced "SAN-door" and loved the way that sounded. I'm pretty sure this is how they pronounce it in Game of Thrones, as well.
Is "SAN-door" just non-existent when it comes to real names??
Re: Sandor/Sander
I think you've got the right pronounciations, but I agree that Sandor will be mispronounced and San-door here in the US. Not sure either one is that great for a name, unless you live in Hungary or Sweden where they might be more common.
Sandor sounds like the name of a wizard. Not a fan of naming a human after any kind of fantasy character.. ever.
Sander is okay.. but it sounds like a surname. I like Anders or Axel better. There's a local weather man here named Anders Nelson.. very nordic/swedish sounding name and he looks kind of nordic.. so it works for him.
Yeah, Sander reminds me too much of the surname Saunders.
We are looking for old/European names, since our son has an old Scandinavian name. I am a big fan of Axel, but unfortunately my DH can't get past the Axel Rose association.
Unfortunately, a lot of the old European names do remind me too much of wizards, vikings, fairy tale characters, etc., too. Argh. This is tough.

I like it.
I was going to mention Sandor Clegane in Game of Thrones but you beat me to it
They pronounce it "San-Door" on the show.
I think there are going to be a lot of GoT inspired names in the future now that people are catching on to it.
In fact, I'm seriously considering Arya for a girl.
