Trying to Get Pregnant

BBT Rise then Drop

Hello,
I am new to BBT charting (this is my first cycle charting).  On CD 14 I had a slight rise (by 0.3 F - 98.4) in temperature however today on CD 15 it dropped back to where I have been for most of my cycle (98.0 - 98.1).  Could this mean I am ovulating today, and just having a drop in temperature prior to ovulation?  As well, when they talk about a slight rise to indicate ovulation, it has to be up for 3 consecutive days right? As well, does the 0.4 temp rise be from the previous day or your average temp over the past 2 weeks?
Thank you!

  • You should be looking at the overall pattern and not individual temps.  When you ovulate, your temperature will increase and stay high during your luteal phase.  The day of ovulation is the day before the temp rise.  Fertility friend generally looks for three temperatures in a row that are higher than the previous 6.  https://www.fertilityfriend.com/courses/lesson.php?p=1;7;760442;78f2

It's normal to see a variation in your temps, but look for broader patterns than a single temp increase and drop. Taking Charge of Your Fertility describes this as "seeing the forest through the trees." Look at overall patterns instead of day-to-day changes. After a few months, you'll have a good handle on analyzing your temps.

Edit: I don't know how to grammar.

  • Thank you for your input.  I am new to temp charting so I am just trying to understand everything I am suppose to be looking for.  I guess I just want to be well educated in this area.  I will look at my temps more as a whole going forward vs. looking at 1 change and trying to understand it, and realize it can go up and down.
  • If you have ovulated, a temp that goes down and then up is called a fallback rise. If your temps don't go back up again consistently above coverline then you didn't ovulate.
