Success after IF

F/U to poop post :)

I posted last week that Sam's poop had, for many weeks, totally changed and had become increasingly loose. The only thing I could reason was that perhaps the switch from whole to 2% milk had messed with his system.  It made no sense, but the timing was about right.

SURE ENOUGH - switched him back to whole milk - and he drinks, eh, maybe 10 ounces a day, 16 ounces on a big day - and it's 100% normal. Could be a coincidence, but isn't that weird?!?

Anyway, I know you were dying to know, so there ;)

  • That is interesting!  I haven't been holding my breath in anticipation, admittedly, but if I were there and it were super stinky, maybe I would have been holding my breath for other reasons. Stick out tongue

  • Weird!  Wonder why the switch would have done that?

  • Oops! Guess I should've commented on this one...

When we were potty training DS1, he was having some constipation issues from holding back, and it was causing him to randomly throw up (lovely, huh?). Anyway, the pediatrician suggested at that time that we switch him OFF of whole milk and onto 1% (because that's what we drink) to help loosen his stools.

So there ya go! It's no coincidence; your suspicions are correct. ;)

  • Glad the switch back was successful! I meant to reply to your other post that what you're describing made a lot of sense. The extra lactose (sugar) and lack of fat in 2% milk is harder for the body to digest, especially a young body, like your son's. Anyway, glad things are back to normal!
