Re: Fun Poll for the day

  • Mine:

The day before my 8th birthday, I was at my Gma's after school. I was drawing on some paper on the floor, and my mom showed up. I dropped the pencil and took off for her. Unfortunately the pencil landed on its eraser end and I stepped on the lead end. It broke off in my heal and I had to go to the Urgent care to get it dug out. I missed school on my birthday because of it, but I made my mom take me in so I could hand out treats...while hobbling around on crutches! lol

  • For my 16th birthday I got my Scuba certification.

I've dove in the Dominican Republic a few times, and Cozumel a few times as well. I didn't have my cert yet in Aruba, so I just snorkeled. (Still insanely awesome)

My very first open ocean dive we had dolphins following the boat, we had sea turtles come right up to us, saw nurse sharks, and had a school of manta rays swim over us :P It was unreal

  • When I was in pre-school I busted my face open on the jungle gym and when I went to the hospital they would not give me stitches because they thought my mom was lying about my age so I had to get steri strips. ETA: I thought of a better one. When I was 16 I wrote an essay for PETA to win tickets to warped tour. I won and (without telling me) they published it in the local paper. I was very embarrassed when my boss came in to work and said "saw your article in the paper" and I had no idea what she was talking about.

  • I've had reconstructive surgery on my face. When I was about 18 months old, my grandparents had just gotten me into my jammies, and they had gone to get theirs on. They were gone for all of 5 minutes. I slipped on the hardwood floors, because the footies didn't have grips, and bashed my face so bad on the fireplace that it split my lip AND my top gum open. (Amazingly enough, however, it didn't mess up my baby teeth?!) They had to strap me down to a board and stitch everything back together, and had to take skin from somewhere else (I don't remember where), so they could get it to go back together right. They couldn't (or wouldn't... I don't remember) put me under, so I was awake for the whole thing. My mom had to be sedated because she could hear me screaming (and saw me strapped down to the board.) My granfather sat with me, and apparently I didn't cry much once he came in to sit with me. (I've always been a grandpa's girl.) Now all you can see of it is a scar above my lip/under my nose. I used to get asked about it alll the time, growing up.

OMG, I had that for 2 years!  It started out of nowhere, and I mentioned it when I went for drug allergy testing that had already been booked.  I couldn't take any antihistamines for a week leading up to my testing, so I was ready to rip my skin off.  The Dr. broke a tongue depresser in half and scratched Xs into my arms (between that and the skin pricks, I looked super hot going back to work! Stick out tongue) He said it would likely go away in 1 to 3 years and to occassionally stop taking stuff and see.  I still find I get super itchy when I work out and get flushed, and I also noticed I was itchy as one of my first pregnancy symptoms all 3 times (people on TTGP board got mad at me for inventing a new phantom symptom!)

How long have you had it?  You probably know more about it than me.

I am now scratching my neck raw as I type this.  Embarrassed

This was supposed to be a fun poll and that wasn't very fun so I have another one.  I LOVE Pizza, I could eat it everyday and I have eaten an entire large Pizza to myself on more than one occasion Embarrassed

    Holy crap!

When I was 6 or 7 years old, my parent's had gone to a craft show at a park/recreational facility. While we were there I was wandering around and found a black kitten. It came right to me and let me pack it around and play with it all day... My parent's reminded me several times that I could not take the kitten home with me and not to get attached.... Later that afternoon as I was packing it around a big dog ran up on me and the cat climbed to the highest point...up my shoulder, and up my face to the top of my head... I scooped the cat off my head and ran back to my parent's booth blood running down my face and my dad pointed me to first aid, where my mom was already standing because she had been stung by a bee... Not once did I ever let that kitten go through the whole ordeal. Because my parent's didn't know if it had rabies or anything, I got my way and the kitten went home with us... I had that cat until I was 17 years old and she contracted feline leukemia from another cat and got really weak and ill. Sad

It was party of a demonstration. I was strapped to a gurney in front of a crowd. The 'executioner' taped tubes to my arms (thankfully no real needles!). A real minister spoke with me to comfort me. Then I was supposed to'die'. When it was over, other people picked my body up in a sheet and lay me on the sidewalk. And I've gone skinny dipping many times. Once even in the super- polluted potomac river. Eww!

  • My adult eye teeth were in the roof of my mouth, not my jaw. When I was 13, I had to have the baby teeth extracted, channels cut in the roof of my mouth, and wires connecting the eye teeth to my braces. Over a period of 4 months, they were slowly moved into place.

  • I hate watching movies with people who don't pay attention. I can't stand when someone thinks it's time for a conversation during a movie. I mean.. little things here and there are ok as long as it is related to the movie.

I have been like this forever. When I was little, I used to make quizzes up for my little brother and little cousins that I made them take after watching a movie to make sure they were paying attention.

  • When I was three I went up to Canada to visit my grandparents who lived in a very remote part of Nova Scotia.  I was playing outside and decided to "go for a walk" in the woods that lined their house by myself.  My gma would always take me for walks and I loved the woods.  Well I got lost and it turned into a huge manhunt for me which included helicopters, the entire town on foot trying to find me and local news coverage.  A guy in a helicopter found me!!  I can't imagine how my parents and g-parents must have felt now that I'm a mom!!

  • When I was a toddler, I fell and cracked my head on the corner of our coffee table. I went to the ER and got stitches, which I kind of remember. I now have a scar just past the hairline on my right side. It looks like a Nike swoosh.

When I was 5/6, my dad worked for a college newspaper, and they published an anti-war poem I wrote. I don't remember it, except that it was based on "No blood for oil". I have no idea if any relatives still have a copy.

My best friend and I were docents for an art exhibit at a local museum when we were 12. The artists wanted children to be the one explaining their works to tours. I thought I was so smart and cool and artsy for doing it. We got our pictures and an interview in the paper. I still remember a lot about the exhibit, so if anyone is a fan of Peter Fischli & David Weiss, we can totally talk.
