Cloth Diapering

Pink discoloration after washing-what is this??

Tonight is the 3rd time I have washed my diapers. Last time I washed, a few of the inserts came out with some light pink discoloration on them. I brushed it off. But now there's more of it spread across several more inserts. What's going on here? I use bumgenius detergent and do a cold wash, hot wash, final rinse. The only thing I can figure out is it might be the red or hot pink gDiapers. But still, those were prewashed separately so why would the colors bleed now?

As a side note, I dislike the gDiapers and plan to sell them. So maybe that will hope?

  • Are the inserts microfiber? I find microfiber is really clingy to other fibers. I'd think they're grabbing onto fibers from the gDiaper covers, but that's just a guess. Maybe try washing and drying them separately once to see if it changes anything. If your gDiapers haven't been washed much yet they might be bleeding dye still.

I've noticed our pail liners and inserts coming out slightly pink and it's from a red Kawaii diaper. It's been washed a bunch of times, but still bleeds a bit.

  • Well, I hope this brightens you day, but it is additional bleeding from the G-Diapers in my opinion.   i had a BG that bled for around 10 washes once.  So I have alot of inserts that are tinged slightly blue.

  • It could also be pink mold. When was the last time you cleaned out you washing machine? You tend to find pink mold places where water collects, like bath tub drains and sinks.

  • I'm going to bet its the g's.  The "g pants" are made of cotton, I believe, and are not supposed to be washed in hot water.  I used to wash them and the "pouches" separately from the inserts.  PITA!

Sorry that they didn't work for you, but glad to have your company on the anti-g bandwagon.  :)
