My lovely daughter is 6 months old- absolutely hates tummy time and is showing no efforts or interest in rolling over but if you sit down in a car seat or the bath seat she will push herself into a sitting position and hold her there for awhile. At her checkup the doctor was concerned that she wasn't rolling over.. wondering what I can do or should be doing to help her? We already lightweight force tummy time, although she screams through most of it.. Sorry if this has already been asked. busy mom back at work already..
Re: Not rolling over but trying to sit up all the time?
LOL 66 weeks pregnant, I guess I better change that soon... gestation of an elephant...
DD is 7 months and refuses to roll over from back to front. When on belly for tummy time, which she hates, flat out screams, she does roll from belly to back no problem. We have been working with Early Intervention and she seems to be exhibiting the ability to roll, she's just lazy. We are doing tummy time in small increments (2-5 minutes) 3-4x within an hour when she is playing and just trying to be more interactive with her. When she tries to roll out, we were told to try and stop the roll out so she is on her side and realizes this is a position she should try to be in so she can sit by herself. DD sits unassisted really well, loves to stand and play at the leapfrog table toy and we want to avoid her not learning how to crawl at this stage, since she has some weakness in her arms. Some babies do walk without crawling and crawl after - but what EI said is that rolling is essential for crawling.
Sorry that was a book!
Thanks, I am thinking that my little one is just lazy too and prefers to sit up and not roll over..
Thanks a bunch
This sounds like my DD. She won't even attempt to roll from back to front, but can roll from front to back easily. However, she's been sitting since 6 months and ever since she learned to sit, she doesn't want to do anything else (although she tries to stand, but she's not strong enough to pull herself up yet). I'm a little worried about her upper body strength so we're going to ask the doctor about it at her 9 month appointment.
We were told to do tummy time and have her push up as much as possible. Your pedi may recommend some Physical Therapy if it doesn't improve. We are waiting to see if these exercises will help.
