Nursing in the ring sling?

I bought a Maya Wrap on Friday and we've used it twice out and about and a few times in the house... she was okay nursing for a little bit in it at the house but when I tried at the mall she threw a fit, she also hates the cradle carry. She will only stay calm in kangaroo but she gets tired and can't sleep in that position so we have to keep the stroller with us too :( ... will continuous "practice" at home help? Did anyone elses LO's struggle with certain carries? Do they still hate it? Or did they get used to it?

Re: Nursing in the ring sling?

  • It took DD some time to get used to being carried/wrapped. She was a leg-straightener. Once she was old enough for a legs out position, she was much happier.

  • You might try getting her used to nursing in the sling by sitting down and loosening the sling and nursing her as usual with the sling still around her but not bearing her weight. Just use it more like a cover than a sling so it's not such a foreign feeling to her. Eventually tighten the sling later in the nursing session when she's calmer. Hopefully after repeating this for multiple sessions she'll get more accustomed to it.

    Good luck!

ETA - I forgot to ask if her head was on the same side as the rings or opposite? DS would not nurse on the ring side because it was too restrictive so he nursed opposite the rings and I would support his head with the crook of my arm. He also like to have his legs out on the opposite side, but he was a big baby too.

  • That's a good idea! Thanks jday! I have only tried her head on the opposite side from the rings, like it shows in the video. How do you get their legs to stick out? I don't get how they can stick out without her whole body sliding out the bottom lol
