What allergy medications are safe?

My allergies are starting to kick in big time, and I've been trying to ignore them but not only is it interfering with my sleep, but my eyes are watering and itching 24/7, and the post nasal drip I get from them is making me gag. Are there any meds I can take that are safe?

Re: What allergy medications are safe?

  • I know for sure Benadryl. I was on Benadryl to help relieve my PUPPS.
And a big no to Allegra. However, I would definitely speak to a pharmacist about what you can take.

  • My doc ok'd anything not in the "D" formulary, so I'm taking regular Zyrtec everyday (24-hour variety) and staying on it until this #!$*#&% pollen stops. It is THICK in ATL. Ick!

    Ask your doc + pharmacist.

  • I've been cleared to take Zyrtec, too.  Even though it's cleared as a category B drug, I try to limit whether I REALLY need it or not.  I've taken two this week, but I try not to feel bad because it does help me feel better.
  • I'm taking Claritin, have the whole pregnancy.  Last pregnancy I was on Singulair but was told it was a no no this time, grrrr.

  • Claritin was on my safe list - think I'm going to break down and take some today thanks to this unseasonably warm Chicago weather!

  • Have you tried a neti pot? It will help all of your symptoms. I haven't had allergies since I started using mine.
  • My doctor told me Zyrtek was okay as long as it was just the regular kind and not the one with the "d"
