Two Fancy Nancy beginning reader books, flash cards for rhyming and sight words, Lady & the Tramp on DVD, a jump rope, some head bands and hair bows, silly spring-y socks, spring colored plaid pencils, cupcake-themed notepads and sticky pads, a couple of single-serving bags of Jelly Bellies, a couple of Reese's Eggs, two bags of Welch's fruit snacks, and some Pixy Stix.
Other things to consider: a new spring outfit/dress, a bathing suit for summer, beach towel, sunglasses, flip-flops, lip balms, jewelry/hat/other accessories, headphones for use with electronic devices, tickets to a movie, a gift card to the book store (or other store, of course), a reusable water bottle, mini Pillow Pet, bubble bath/bath crayons/bath toys, inflatable beach ball/other beachy-outdoors toys, water balloons, etc.
Wow, awesome ideas. Thanks!!

My daughter doesn't eat candy; never has. Just isn't a fan of any type--chocolate, chewy, candy-coated, nothing. So, Easter is always a tricky holiday for us. Last year, I made her an arts & crafts themed Easter basket stocked with crayons, paints, paintbrushes, and an art smock. She LOVED it. This year, I'm thinking a fruit basket; she loves apples, oranges, pineapples and peaches. I'll throw in a copy of the DVD "Hop"; I think it's getting released at the end of this month and I'll take her to the Build A Bear Workshop so she can create her own stuffed Easter bunny. I think she'll like it.
So far I've gotten her a Melissa & Doug craft project, Hello Kitty hair clips, necklace and nail polish, 2 Olivia books, sunglasses and sidewalk chalk. I know she will get lots of candy from the grandparents, so I'm skipping that part.
We do little to no candy in DD's basket from us. I usually do a few plastic eggs with coins, books, clothing, etc. Last year her fav item in her entire basket was this Melissa & Doug flashlight:
We use it literally every night to read bedtime stories.
This year will be a few eggs with coins or dollar bills, some books (that I already ordered from Scholastic through her preschool class), probably another mini lalaloopsy doll, and some flip flops.
We too arent doing candy this time. They get enough from the Easter egg hunt and Grandparents.
We are getting DS (3.5) a new game for his Leapster Explorer and some Cars or Super hero Squinkies, maybe a box of linkin logs. I rather do a few bigger items I know he will love and play with instead of a bunch of junk that we end up tossing a couple week later.
DD is 16 months so we will probably find a new toy and add her favorite Happy Baby squeeze food and a new summer swimsuit and some summer accessories.
bubbles with bubble gun, Puss N Boots DVD, stickers, some chocolate and jelly beans, princess pez dispenser, gardening gloves, little trowel, water toy, flip flops, hair bands, squinkies, socks, probably a new swim suit, sunglasses, coloring book.
In previous years, she has received a small broom and rake, watering can, little princess dolls (polly pocket size), books and so on. I had to nix the books this year because we are trying to cull the herd right now.
I have a DS, but I give my niece, (who is also my godaughter) an easter basket each year. This year I purchased the following:
Hair ties, socks, tights, a necklace building kit, a bag of goldfish crackers, a box of animal crackers, playdoh, a set of egg shaped sidewalk chalk, an Abby Cadabby coloring book, an Abby Cadabby tote, a giant colorful lollipop, and a chocolate bunny. And I'm probably forgetting to list some items.
I got all of the above items at the dollar stores and at the Target $1 section.

So far I have on the list for DD1- new swimsuit, some new flip flops and flowers, buttons, etc to decorate them, one of those popsicle mold things, bath bubbles, some TicTacs, a princess tshirt and maybe a new tiara. So far, I am planning on chocolate coins, plastic rings and change for in the eggs. DD2 is getting a Puddle Jumper, new crocs, her own chair for camping and a princess tshirt. I'm planning on a recon mission in the next few days so I'm sure I'll be adding to the lists before Easter gets here.
Wow, does everybody fill their DC's Easter basket with such fun gifts? We have a sucky Easter bunny that only brings a few pieces of candy.
I was actually thinking the same thing last night after I posted on here. Growing up, my basket was always filled with candy (some cool candy, but candy nonetheless) and the eggs we found were always hard boiled eggs. I honestly started straying from this as I realized my stepkids usually needed stuff for the summer and this was the perfect way to give it to them (and neither of them eat candy at all). As far as the eggs, no one ever ate the real ones and after a bazillion egg hunts, we are definitely stockpiling the plastic ones.
A little candy (Hershey's kisses, a couple of Cadbury eggs, maybe some marshmallow eggs) along with other small items (think stuff from the $1 section of Target).
I say this now but I will go completely nuts buying way better stuff between now and Easter.

I'm all done! I try not to get too much stuff for Easter because my mom also sends baskets.
In the eggs will be the pieces to a Lego kit, hair things, bath crayons, Goldfish and Annie's bunny snacks.
For the baby, stuff for solid feeding: spoons, mesh teether bags, cereal, sippy cup.
