cyst from clomid

I'm in the unexplained category. I did my first round of clomid last month (with HCG, progesterone...BFN).  I went in for baselines on CD 3 for clomid this morning and there was a 3.5 sized cyst on my right ovary....OUT for this cycle. Questions:

-Has anyone else had cysts after clomid?

-Will the cyst disappear, is it going to burst?

-Will a cyst keep me from ovulating?

-Nurse mentioned birth control pills.  What do birth control pills do for cysts?

What a reminder that I am NOT the one in control here.  Part of me is relieved to take a break.  But part of me hates that we can't do treatments this month.

Re: cyst from clomid

  • I'm in the same boat! We did TI with Menopur and Femara. I was all set to start again, but on Monday at my baseline I was told I had 2 big cysts. It's so frustrating. My doctor put me on birth control pills, I suppose to keep my ovaries quiet to ensure the cysts have a better environment to disappear. I will be checking this post as I'm also curious about the answers to your questions!

I sympathize with the reminder that we're not in control! This whole process seems like such a mind game.

  • I had a cyst last month from Follistim. I had to take the month off to recoup. I wasn't in any pain and the cyst did not burst...to my knowledge. I temped and DID ovulate. My nurse also told me that a cyst shouldn't keep you from ovulating, but it might delay ovulation. Sometimes they give you BCP to get rid of the cyst. But, there is still a lot of speculation to whether or not it works. Usually, we get rid of them on our own.

Good luck! Have a good break cycle. I just got off of my break and my body is responding really well to the Follistim this time. I think it's good to give our bodies a break from all of this. You'll be back on top next month.

  • I also had a cyst caused by clomid.  Mine resolved on its own and it was pretty huge, I think 6 cm.  I also read that you can do castor oil packs to try to get it to go away so you don't have to go on the pill.  The pill just regulates your hormones which will help it go away because cysts feed on hormones.

Cysts can keep you from ovulating because they can produce estrogen.  That's what mine did.  I'm not sure if I ovulated that cycle or not, it was inconclusive.  But the cyst did keep producing a ton of estrogen--my blood levels were really high and my body had strong pre-ovulation signs like tons of EWCM.

I hope yours resolves soon and you can get back to treatment!
