Coconut water

Does anyone have any coconut water brands they'd like to recommend?  I want to try it before labor so I'll know if I'll want some on hand at the hospital.  TIA!

Re: Coconut water

  • i usually buy Vita Coco. i hate the way it tastes (like cold sweat, yuck), so i usually buy the peach/mango coconut water, or i cut it with a little fruit juice.

it is best cold (otherwise it tastes like room temperature sweat).

regardless of taste, it is one of the best ways to get electrolytes into your body during pregnancy and labor. i drank it every day in my 3rd trimester (the 2nd hottest summer on record where i live) and i drank it during my labor.

  • Wow!  My husband just bought some coconut water the other day, just to try it.  I had no idea it was good for pregnant women lol!  I actually didn't like it, but the mango flavored kind sounds good.
  • I like the ones that are mixed with another flavor, too, but I can drink it plain once in awhile.

You can also buy flavorless water with electrolytes if you really hate it.

  • I think the best one is VitaCoco Tropical Fruit flavor. Runners up are Tangerine and Pineapple. Other than that I think it tastes like crap!

I've been drinking a lot of coconut water to help with my leg cramps and it works.

  • O.N.E. Coconut water is my favorite.  I tried the vitacoco brand once and it was surprisingly yucky!  After having the O.N.E. brand I thought they all tasted that clean and refreshing.
  • I have to mix it with juiced veggies to get it down.
  • I love Zico coconut water.  It is so yummy when it is nice and cold (almost icy.)  I have a few bottles from pre-pregnancy that I used for running, so I'm going to pack those for the hospital....thanks for reminding me!

  • Funny to read all these response . . . I LOVE the way plain coconut water tastes!  I drink Vita Coco.  Once in a while I add fresh lime to it, otherwise I drink the regular, non-flavored kind after it has been chilled.  I absolutely hated the Zico I bought at Trader Joe's.  After reading the packaging I realized it was from concentrate and that is why it tasted so bad.  I drank it well before pregnancy and will continue to drink it well after pregnancy.  I just wish it wasn't so expensive.  I seriously spend about $20/week in coconut water.  No joke . . .

This. The flavored ones taste like I imagine window cleaner to taste like. I like the ONE brand. My daughter loves all kinds of coconut water. I'm glad we started her on it instead of juice.

  • You are smart to try it beforehand.  I just bought the Trader Joe's brand and drank it cold with honey through a straw.  Not great, but OK.
  • vita coco! oh yeah!!

  • I'm surrounded by fresh coconuts where I live! The tourists are always drinking them but I think its gross. What are the benefits? Thanks!
