2nd Trimester

Erythema Nodosum...

Is anyone else suffering from this annoying problem? My OB (who seems to be missing a brain at times) had NO idea what was wrong with my legs. I played Dr. last night, google searched for 30 minutes, and was able to diagnose myself. Sadly, there is no "cure", it is just supposed to go away. Anyone have any tricks about this? Or is it really as uncommon as it led me to believe?

Re: Erythema Nodosum...

  • I had it before i found out i was pregnant with DD. It only lasted about 2 weeks but it was very painful. My regular doctor diagnosed me. Its an immune system response /problem and I have several other immune system problem so it seemed to fit.

  • I had in this about 10 years ago while I was on birth control and that's what my doctor thought caused it.  I can't remember what they did to treat it (aside taking me off birth control).  I just looked at the information I received and it says you can take NSAIDS and it also talks about cortico-steroids, but I'm not sure what they'd recommend during pregnancy.  It also mentions bedrest and compressive bandages.  Perhaps if you could get an appt. with a dermatologist they could suggest treatment.

  • Ah, I did not find a website that stated it is an immune system problem. I have a very weak immune system, so I guess that makes sense. Did you find ANY relief for the problem?
  • About 2 years ago I had this on both my legs. After a few weeks of drinking lots of water & taking it easy, they faded & eventually completely went away. Sorry to hear you've got this issue. Know that it will pass. If it hasn't cleared or begun to fade in the next week, I'd contact my doc again, though. GL!

  • I developed this about 6 months after I had my DD. My primary care doctor diagnosed me and said it was often associated with sarcoidosis. They did a chest xray and saw no signs of it. SInce I have auto immune issues, I went to my immunologist  who did a more thorough work up - blood panels and CT scan. Turns out I did have stage 2 sarcoid. That was about 2 years ago.

You may want to seek the advice of a doctor who specializies in these types of issues or even a PCP, as an OB would not have much experience. Hope you feel better soon.
