UO Thursday

Let's hear those unpopular opinions.

I hate the term TMI. After 9 months of pregnancy together, there is very little that rates as TMI between us. Sometimes I see people write things like, "My baby's poop was green today - TMI." Really? You think that after months of discussing discharge, mucus plugs, and vomit we can't handle a little bit of baby poop talk? My opinion is that unless you are really sharing something that is Too Much Info (such as garlic semen, perhaps), please don't bother with the warning.

I think that it is stupid that Greek yogurt has become so trendy. Seriously .. where the hell did the Greek yogurt explosion come from? How many of you were eating this 5 years ago? My breakroom refridgerator has become a graveyard for unwanted, outdated Greek yogurt. My theory is that everyone buys it to look cool, but they just let it die a sad death in the fridge because the truth is that it is kind of gross. Ick!(Before I get jumped on, I am sure that there are people that ate this 5 years ago, but you are definitely in the minority.)

The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, Real Housewives, Kardashians --- I have no interest in any of them. (But I can't wait for the next season of Sixteen and Pregnant. Embarrassed)

Re: UO Thursday

  • Greek yogurt is seriously nasty - but I could eat Icelandic yogurt all day long. Too bad it's so expensive!

My UO: I would rather live in Alaska than in any state south of Ohio. I wouldn't even consider living 2 hours south of where I am now. I HATE hot weather and bugs. I really enjoyed the weather when I lived in the UP of MI. I call this unpopular because everyone I know is trying to move down south.

Also...while I enjoyed the Hunger Games, I dont think it really lives up to the hype. My DH raves about how well-written the books were, but they just seemed average to me. They were kind of like Twilight to me - the story kept me reading, but when it's over, I'm not left thinking I've just read a masterpiece. Harry Potter, on the other hand, deserves every bit of the hype (and more).

  • Oh, and this isn't an UO, but speaking of TV...I'm seriously pumped for the new season of River Monsters. I LOVE that show, and I'm not even sure why. It's not llike I'm into fishing or anything.

UO - I do not care for Harry Potter, the books or the movies. I have tried to read the books and watch the movies, and I can't get through them. I read the Twilight series (except for the last 100 pages or so of the 4th book.) They kept my attention, but I don't see the hype. I can't stand the movies. I have been thinking about reading the Hunger Games, but I am guessing I might have the same opinon as you.

  • I can't stand when people post about what they're making for dinner (or made and how they thought it was SO good) on FB. Ex: "I made Salmon with roasted broccoli and salted caramel pie for dinner- YUM!". I have no idea why this drives me insane, but it does. I guess because it's like everyone thinks they're a master chef because they got a recipe from Pinterest. It's even worse when they post pictures. However, I really enjoy the WFD posts here.

  • I have a crew of girlfriends who looove Twilight and go see the movies each time one comes out. In the spirit of being open-minded, I went with them once (can't even remember which one in the series it was), and it only confirmed what I thought. Ever since then I secretly judge them for thinking the books/movies are so awesome.

But before you think I'm a snob about it, I read the Hunger Games and didn't even pick up that it's a young adult book. I just thought the writing was mediocre, haha. (Although I liked the story and will go see the movie.) I only found out b/c I suggested it to my friend's husband and he started making fun of me for reading a teeny bopper book. And I'm def not too highbrow to enjoy some trashy Bravo TV shows.

Ok, this UO isn't that big of a deal, but I can't think of anything else that has annoyed me lately (besides the usual) - I can't stand how something becomes the "cause d'jour" on FB and then you see everyone and their brother putting stuff on their pages about it. Ex: it was apparently Dr. Seuss's bday or anniversary recently, and about 50 ppl I know put Dr. Seuss book quotes as their status update. Laaaame.  Same thing with sports and being bandwagon jumpers just b/c it's the superbowl or whatever.

    Yay...UO day!

I like Greek yogurt it because it's not as sweet as regular yogurt can be. I did not eat it 5 years ago.

I watch 16 and Pregnant because it makes me feel better about my life.

I love Harry Potter, and I plan on reading The Hunger Games just because everyone says I should.

My UO is (and I am kind of building off AmandaP's here) people saying "I love my baby, but...". Just because you have a complaint about your kid, doesn't mean you don't love them. We all love our babies. We know this. That said, I am probably guilty of doing this. Tongue Tied

  • Ok...aparently my UO is that I LOVE the Twilight books and movies. Robert Pattinson is my Hollywood boyfriend btw!

    My other UO's...

I honestly judge people who BF after 1. If your child is old enough to ask for it, they probably dont need it. Plus, all the antibodies that your child needs from BM they will have by 6mo. I'm not planning on giving formula after 1 year. He'll switch to Whole milk.

and I dont think this is a UO, but I'm going to say it anyway, because I'm in a B!tchy mood hahaha...

I hate people who have to make their children's stats into a compitition with other parents. i.e: My little one is sitting un-assisted, crawling, has 17 teeth, and asked to borrow the car, and they are only 4 months old!  This irritates me and makes me feel like my LO is behind on something!

Oh, and, I don't think The Walking Dead is that great of a show. Sure, I watch it because it's kind of cool and I really like the zombie make-up, but I think the acting is terrible and the story line is pretty transparent.

I'm with you on this. I never say "LOL.". I say "haha" but sometimes that's just weird too.

  • It drives me crazy when people only have pictures of one of their children when they have more than one... or if they have a ticker for one and not the others... how does that even make sense?

Also, when they leave Valentines/Christmas pictures when it's almost spring. None of my business, maybe it's b/c I change Had's so often, that it irks me.

I think tv is okay for kids, I don't think that it will rot their brains like some moms do. I will NOT let Hadley sit camped out in front of it when she is older, and I think that it's silly that people let their babies watch a ton of tv, but talking for toddlers/school kids, just don't see what some tv each day will hurt.

I think it's fine to BF after 1 year and have to admit that I judge people who think that at 6mo/1yr/first tooth etc a baby suddenly needs to switch from human milk to cow milk.  I will be BFing past one year.  I think so many people just don't feel comfortable with boobs being used for food and fun.

I didn't get to BF although it still makes me sad... (we adopted) but I would have probably BF after 1 year. My niece did it until she was 15 months old and it was so natural, she quit when she was ready.  I personally think there is a HUGE difference in BFing after a year, and BFing a child. Personally... not judging others who do... think it's just a bit odd to BF a child who can run around the house eating pizza and is potty trained. Some people are so proud of BFing their 3 year old... sure that's great for you guys, but I don't get the pride in it.

  • I seriously think people are being way too mean about Snookie being pregnant. Yes it was most likely an accident and yes she is immature, but it's not like she continued to drink after the BFP. People are saying she doesn't know who the father is and her baby will have fetal alcohol syndrome. It's just mean. She has a boyfriend and at least she waited until 3 months to announce it. She stepped up and took responsibility. I don't even watch JS cause it's a joke but people need to stop being so mean and making rude comments about her and her baby.

  • My UO is I hate how close-minded people can be about extended BF'ing. Research shows that it has many benefits, and the worldwide average age of a breastfed child is well beyond 2.

FTR I don't BF (I pump & FF). I have immense respect for those who do.

  • I hate when moms brag about all they accomplished during the day with their babies. Especially when they post stuff like this ALL. THE. TIME.
What I mean is, I have one fb friend in particular who will be like, "Baby Susie 4 mo baby, mind you) and I got so much accomplished today...cleaned the whole house, sewed two dresses, made a wreath for the front door, made three homemade desserts, made homemade bread, did all the laundry, went grocery shopping, etc. etc. etc. blah blah blah" (I'm exaggerating a little but not really) It makes me feel like a total failure when I was previously feeling good about myself just for getting ready for the day and getting one load of laundry done.

  • My UO...I have quite a few friends and co-workers that sell products that are sold via at home parties and such. Tastefully Simple, Scentsy, BeutiControl, and a few others. Most of them are very nice about it. They don't pressure me into buying; they don't flood their FB wall with it; their business is not ALWAYS the topic of conversation. I do however have a few friends on FB that post at least once a day about their business. 2 of them have gotten their posts removed from my feed because it annoys me so much and a 3rd is on her way unless it slows down soon!

  • My UO would have to be I hate people who are always causing drama because they think everything is about them.

One of my oldest and dearest friends is like this and it drives me nuts. She is always trying to turn something someone says or does into a big deal when half the time it has nothing to do with her. I love her because we have been friends for so long but honestly if I met her today we probably wouldn't be friends.

Not really a UO but she just called so its all I got.
