so i would like to have a few registries but are there any rules? as a ftm im so overwhelmed! any suggestions or advice on what you are personally doing for bshower? i feel like i like some of the higher end items for certain things but then i dont want to just have to have o nly two registries and only one with a few items on it. thanks!
Re: how many is too many?
I only wanted to have one, on Amazon, but we have a lot of older family members who won't want anything to do with the internet so I made one for Target as well. I think most of my necessities are on Amazon, like cloth diapers; the ones we want are sold by a company with no registry option, but Amazon gives you the ability to put items from outside websites on your registry with them. That's how our diapers are listed as well as a couple items from Ikea. I also feel like Amazon has the best prices and I'd feel bad adding things on Target that I know cost much less on Amazon.
I think if you have too many you'll have people who only look at one and assume you're greedy, even though if they looked they'd see that some registries only contain a couple items.

I think 2 would be a good number to have. We registered at BuyBuyBaby for all the big ticket items because they have the items we want. The closest BBB where the shower is being held is 45 min. away.......I live 4 hours away from my family and friends.
I really don't expect them to go off this registry since the closest one is so far from them so I also started one at Target for the smaller stuff like wipes, paci's, lotion, first aid kit, etc....
The BBB registry is mainly for DH and I as sort of a check off list for us plus we get a completion coupon which is always a plus
Two is a good number although many of the showers I've gone to and also hosted have had 3 (especially if one is on-line).
We had two registries, Target and BRU. I did some research on Amazon, finding styles, and patterns I liked (and checked the consumer reviews!) first then I looked at Target and BRU to compare prices - I did the same thing with my bridal registries.
When you make a registry, the stores obviously want money from you and your shower guests. They give you all kinds of suggestions of "must haves" that frankly, aren't must haves. I asked a friend of mine who had a one-year old which things she couldn't live without and which things were a waste. It was really, really helpful.
You can have as many registries as you want - the more the better when it comes to finding the items you need and getting great discounts. HOWEVER, I would suggest only publicizing 2 or 3.
I like the idea of having one discount store - Target or Walmart, one baby store - BRU or BBB and one designer store - Pottery Barn Kids or Land of Nod.
Love this idea. I had Babies R Us, Buy Buy Baby, and Target. Of course I didn't end up having a shower, it was more of a list for us to check off, but it did help my work friends who wanted to get us something.
