Is a heating pad safe to use?

I am always cold now. I have been wearing my coat in the house. Last night I used a heating pad in bed as I read and found it really relaxing but afterword I started to worry whether or not it was OK for the baby. I tried to keep it on my upper back and then on my butt but then I remember that the embryo is in my pelvis. What do guy think?

  • I'm not sure about a constant heat, heating pad.  I was okay'd to use my microwaveable one that cools down over a short period of time.  Maybe try that?

  • I hope so!  I use one every night on my back!  It is the kind that shuts off after a short period of time - by that time I am sleeping!

  • A heating pad on your lower back is fine as long as you don't have it cranked on high.

I use one every night after my PIO injection and my RE said it's perfectly fine as long it's not on there long and not too hot.

If you're just using it because you're cold though, try moving it down around your feet and lower legs. That's where I put mine if I'm cold and it warms me up really quickly!

  • I know I use it to keep my back from cramping up but only on a low or medium setting and for 20 min at a time.

  • I have a heating pad on top of my mattress. I used to put it on and leave it on all night (well it turns off after a few hours) but now that I'm PG, I put it on before I get into bed, then shut it off. This way my blankets are warmed up for me but I'm not laying directly on heat.
