Cloth Diapering

Bac Out

One of the CD videos I watched showed parents using this on all soiled diapers before they were put in the wet bin. Is this necessary for the new born stage or something that you only have to do later on?

Also- do soiled newborn diapers need to be sprayed off, or is this a later stage step as well?

Re: Bac Out

  • If you breastfeed you definitely do not need the bac-out, and also you don't need to do any spraying off.

I'm kind of new to cd'ing but I don't know if I feel like bac-out has helped me much.  I spray it on all overnight diapers & inserts and on any poop diaper after I'm done spraying it off.  I use a generous amount and wash every other day and still get weird smelling diapers sometimes.  When I'm out of this bottle I'm going to try going without to see if I even notice a difference.  I know other people swear by it, so maybe it's just me.  Either way you won't need it right away.

  • I use it and LOVE it!  I agree with pp that I don't NEED it (LO is still EBF), but I think it really helps.  I just started using it and before I did there was a bit of an odor to my wet bag (and the room...) and the poopy diapers would always stain.  So since I'm OCD I was rinsing them by hand before putting them in the wash to prevent staining.  Now I spray the poopy and ON diapers and do not have any odor or staining issues.  Well, except for my prefolds- they still get faint stains.  So, you don't HAVE to use bac-out, but it sure is nice!  (BTW, there's nothing wrong with stains- you can sun them to get them out.  I just prefer to avoid them in the first place.)
