Baby Names

What do you think of Alice?

I want a name that is not completely common. My husband shoots down everything I like and the only thing we can agree on is Alice. Do you think that is an okay Name? I like it but I feel weird calling a baby Alice. It seems more grown up to me for some reason.

  • I love Alice! It was on my short list for a long time when naming DD. I think it's a wonderful name that will age well.

  • I adore Alice.

You could always call your baby Ally or A or some other cute nickname if you felt Alice was too mature for a little baby. I think Alice makes a for a lovely name, though.

  • I think it's a really lovely name.  You could always use Ali as a nickname, but honestly, I think Alice is great on its own.

  • I like it. It's much more classic than other spin-offs (Alison, Alyssa) and goes along with the "old lady trend." You can use the nn Ally. Good choice.

  • I love Alice. My childhood BFF was Alice. She was named after her grandmother Alice, so she was often referred to as Baby Alice (said all as one word, like Babyalice). She is not in her late 30s and I still have to remind myself not to call her Baby Alice.

  • Do it! I'm a fan of old-fashioned names. It isn't super trendy, so she probably won't have 2 or 3 other girls in her class with the same name.

  • If we were having a girl Alice was on my list! So under appreciated and not at all common. It has a clean sound to it that would be good for any age. Great pick!

    LOVE LOVE LOVE

Remember, you are not naming just a baby, you are naming someone that will be a adult for well over 70% of their life.

THIS 100%!!!  I think we sometimes think about naming our CHILDREN but forget we are also naming our ADULT children....

I love Alice!  But I am a sucker for classic names!!  Wink

  • I like it, just not for me (well, obviously, an Allie with a DD named Alice would be dumb, but regardless of that).

I think it's pretty and I don't know why it wouldn't "work" on a baby. If you're worried about that, you could always call her Allie until she "grows into" Alice.

  • I like it a lot. It's classic and beautiful. And you can always call your LO by a nickname. Allie works or something else entirely. DD's name is Abigail but I didn't like Abby for her so I called her by a nickname totally unrelated to her name if I didn't use Abigail.

  • LOVE Alice. It was my great-grandmother's name and I'm thinking about using it for a future daughter. If we did, we'd probably use the nn Allie when she's younger. Go for it!

  • I think this name is going to really rise in popularity. I can't believe how much love this board gives this name... I almost never hear anything negative about it. Whenever someone brings it up everyone swoons. This makes me think it must be gaining in popularity.

My opinion is that it sounds dated. I've never found it attractive.

If you and H love it though, go for it... especially since you've had trouble agreeing. GL!

  • My husband loves this name (it's a family name on his mom's side of the family) but I'm not 100% on board with it as a first name. So we've agreed to use it as a middle name for our daughter. I just can't get on board with it for a first name, reminds me too much of an old lady.
