Baby Names

Boy name - Iver...

okay so I am sorta big on family names and this is a family name - my great-grandfather's name.  when I was pregnant with my girls and I thought of that for a boy name I always disliked it.

THEN last week I was at the Mall of America and there was this ADORABLE, naughty, cute, spit fire of a boy running away from his mama and she is yelling out to him... "IVER STOP" Of course it grabbed my attention... and then I laid eyes on this little guy and I FELL IN LOVE with the name.... I got into a small name conversation with the mom and told her it was a family name in our family and she politely said I could go ahead and use the name since I liked it... Big Smile

So... what do you think of the name Iver Joseph???

Our other names for boy are:  Dean & Asher (same MN)....

Re: Boy name - Iver...

  • I like it. Does make me think of Bon Iver - musician, but it works...

Curious - was it a FN in your family or LN? I don't know which it traditionally is...

  • First name of my great grandfather... although my grandmother's last name was Rusten and I heard a little boy named that in my daughters old preschool...

  • I don't like it at all. You still get your complimentary "Family Name" free pass, but yeah, I'm not a fan of the sound.

  • It's interesting- sounds like it's short for Iverson. I think it goes well with your other boys' names.

  • Don't like it one bit! How do you pronounce that? Eye-ver?

    I like Dean.

  • It depends how you are pronouncing it. Bon Iver (the musician) pronounces it Ee-Vehr. But when I see it I want to pronounce it I-ver, like Iverson. I much prefer this to the french pronunciation and no one will think of the musician if pronounced that way.

  • I LOVE it. And I mean LOVE! Yes I'm a fan of Bon Iver (can't wait to see them in May) - I'm not sure if you'd be pronouncing it like I-ver or like the French word for winter (that's the pronunciation of the band but he dropped the H in the spelling) But I'm trying to get DH on board to at least use it as a MN!

  • I would totally use it. I like it spelled Ivor as well.

Ivor was the FN of the Vice-Chancellor at the University where I graduated. So it gives me a distinguished feeling.
