Know it's been asked...but wheatgrass ?s

Am I missing something with the whole search function thing or does it just never work?

So wheatgrass is good for what exactly again? I checked the vitamin stores in my area but could only find them at Wholefoods. Dose is 5 pills at 1000mg/each - love how they smell like dirt =) But it says you can take this dosage 3x a day. Ew...really? Isn't one dose of 5 pills enough?

  • The search function never works for me either =(

I am actually drinking 2 tablespoons of wheatgrass in orange juice right now.  Urban legend says it can help with egg quality.  I hope so, but if not, it is basically a serving of a dark leafy green vegetable (grass!) and it is supposed to have a lot of fiber....so it is pretty good for you, regardless if it helps with infertility.  Sorry I can't answer about the pills b/c I have only take the powder.  FOr the powder, they recommend 2 tablespoons a serving 1 to 3 times a day.  And I agree, it smells and tastes awful...but it the urban legend is true then I will drink grass clippings =)

  • The thing I don't get about wheatgrass is that it's supposed to improve your egg quality by lowering you FSH. But an increased FSH stimulates follicle stimulation/ovulation. I want follicle stimulation and ovulation! So why would I want to lower fsh?

  • I take 7 pills of wheatgrass every day (they stink, I know).  It is said to lower FSH, increase egg quality & quantity.  As for FSH, you don't want your FSH to be too high.

"A high level suggests poor ovarian reserve; and a very high level ( more than 20 mIU/ml, though this varies from lab to lab ) is diagnostic of ovarian failure."

  • i had a meeting with my RE just yesterday and asked him about this. His response to me was basically i can take it, it won't cause harm. But even with my elevated FSH, lowering it won't do much for me. He is trying to stimlulate my ovaries to produce more follicles. Hence, lowering your FSH with wheatgrass does not necessarily mean my ovaries will be more stimulated.. does that make sense??

I know each person's situation is different, but that was his answer for me. Plus, he said that FSH can vary from cycle to cycle and day to day, so focusing on that will drive us crazy.

  • You're getting confused about FSH.

Baseline high FSH levels indicate low ovarian function. Basically your body is increasing FSH production to try and make up for the fact that your ovaries aren't functioning as well as they should.

However, from a treatment perspective (esp with injectibles), the goal is to stimulate your ovaries as much as possible over your cycle to get eggs. That's when you want FSH to be high, at least for that point in your cycle.

I have no idea what's up the wheatgrass, I haven't been down that road yet.
