Hi, I'm Adriane and expecting our first baby (a boy) in a few weeks.  So, I have always thought it would be wise to have one of those "Baby On Board" car decals or magnets, until i read a discussion where basically everyone slammed the idea.  I thought it is one of those "better safe than sorry" instances to have some indication a baby is on board.  For the aggresive drivers, it may make them think twice and back off, right?  Am I a total dweeb for thinking it is a good idea?  Are you putting one on your car?  Thanks :)

Nope. They piss me off and I've already got a kid.

A baby sign on someone's car pisses you off?  Really?  You might want to try anger management.  Hmm

Um, wow, I've never said this on TB before, but you don't know me.

And yeah, I'm allowed to be annoyed by a sign whose sole purpose is to smugly state to the world, "look at meeeeee. I'm special 'cuz I have a babyyyyyy."

Nor do I want to.  An aggressive driver who gets pissed off by a safety sign?  I'll pass.

I'm not an aggressive driver, but those signs still annoy me. And if you'll look at the other responses to this post you'll see I'm not alone.

Yeah. Because the carseat and baby in the car won't be a dead giveaway.  If this were actually true, they would hand them out at the carseat safety places or give them to you in the hospital for free.

... they do hand them out where I got my car seat inspected.

They didn't have them at my fire station, JS. The point is, most safety people will tell you not to advertise your child/family on your car or anything else. It's dangerous. Yes, as you said, someone could see your carseat in your car. But chances are... at least while LO is a small infant, his carseat won't be in the car when he isn't (i.e if we're home or in a store). He'll get brought in/out in his carseat. Also, my windows are tinted enough that someone would be unable to see this stuff regardless. I'm not hating on the signs... I'm just saying that they can be dangerous in their own respect.

  • They remind me of a lame 80's flashback.....I would never post one in my vehicle. Ever.

They are stupid I don't see the point.  If someone is a sh!tty driver they are always a sh!tty driver.  Its not going to stop someone from texting and driving while you are near, or someone from running a red light.

Actually, the purpose for the sign is to alert paramedics/emergency responders so they know to look for the baby first.  Since they are trained to assess the situation from afar, they might not see the car seat and/or baby.

My husband is a police sergeant in the most revered police department in the country and I will well you that he is not trained to assess an accident from afar. They get up close and personal and put their lives on the line real quick to see who and what is in that car regardless of a dinky sign in the rear windshield or on a passenger window.

  • I was thinking of ordering a bumper sticker that says

"I have a baby in my car.  I also have a really good lawyer.  BACK OFF"

    LOL
