Baby Names

Heard this little gem at work today....

Someone brought in their 3 year old son... his name???

Flounder.

..... Like the fish in the little mermaid.....

What's scariest is that this woman acted and looked completely sane. It's scary when these crazies roam amongst us.

  • No. Please tell me this is a joke. Did you hear it first-hand? Is it a nickname?

Not a joke. If I didn't hear it first hand I wouldn't have believed it.

I was at reception and distinctly heard: "Flounder, let's go. Get your coat."

After I picked my jaw off from the floor, I looked at the receptionist with a WTF face, and she confirmed that's his name.

  • REALLY?

    That's just... out there. Unbelievable.

It has such negative connotations, too. WTF?

  • Flounder? A FISH??? Wow. That poor, poor child.
  • I know a kid named Bass, but Flounder may actually be worse!

  • Even if it were a nickname, it's cruel. Take about setting your child up for failure in life.

"Oh, what's that, son? You got a D- on your test? That's okay, we never expected much from you anyway. Why do you think we named you flounder in the first place?"

    Borderline child abuse, IMO.

Wow... did he have a brother named Sebastian?

This just made me laugh out loud because I was joking with a friend Sat nt who didn't like Sebastian because of the Little Mermaid and my exact words were, "Well, it's not like it's Flounder or something!" Poor kid. That's just ridiculous.

  • To be fair, maybe she didn't name him after the fish. Maybe she just assumed he would be a shiftless adult who "flounders" through life.
