Talk to me about Prevacid

I posted here a couple of weeks back about DD being put on Zantac for reflux. Many of you said it was unsuccessful at treating your LOs reflux and the same was proven for us! We had to wait 3 awful weeks for our appointment with the GI specialist. Poor Kate was fighting eating around the clock and mommy was about to pull out her hair! Yesterday the GI doc changed us to Prevacid and I am hoping and praying that this is our answer!

Did Prevacid work in your experience? Also, he prescribed solu-tabs... We give half of one one time per day. But they are a lot bigger than I was expecting! I put it on her tongue last night and it took about a minute before it fully dissolved! I was terrified she was going to choke on it!! Any advice is greatly appreciated! TIA!

Re: Talk to me about Prevacid

  • Previcid did work well for my son. We actually dissolved the tab in a syringe with a little bit of water - I found if you keep turning the syringe it will discern pretty quickly. Then I just squirted that into his cheek. Worked great. Hope it makes a big difference for you - and quickly!

That's a great idea! Thanks for sharing :)

  • We were also switched to Prevacid after Zantac didn't work. It took a few days, but now Harper is a different baby. It's helped so much! I also second the syringe with a little bit of water, it has worked better for us than just putting it on her tongue. I'd recommend trying to find a small syringe with a bulb at the top (instead of the one that you push to administer, I felt like the beads from the solutabs would get stuck at the end). Not sure if that makes any sense? GL!

  • If you have trouble with her spitting the water/meds out when you use the syringe, try "hiding" the syringe in a nipple from her bottle or cut a hole in her paci and shoot it in while she sucks. We used that method for all our DD's meds until recently.
  • Prevacid really helped in our case.  We did a compounded Prevacid with flavoring added.  It tastes pretty bad without the flavoring.  Hope it helps!
  • Weve been on prevacid for a long time now - it really made a difference.  She started with 1/2 solutab once a day, we dissolve it in a teaspoon of nursery water and give it to her with a dropper. Now she does 1/2 tab twice a day - shes almost 20 lbs now!!!

  • Same with us. Zantac No. Prevacid Yes.

I used to put the tab between my thumb and first finger, run it quickly under water, rub my fingers together for a second until you feel it dissolve a little, then massage my finger and thumb with the meds on it in their cheeks. It was by far the quickest, cleanest, and easiest way that I tried. I could also easily do this when we were out (yes, I cleaned my hands first) without dealing with a syringe and water, etc.

We were doing the Zantac twice a day, and the Prevacid 1/2 tab twice a day until we weaned them at 11 months. No problems now!

Hope the Prevacid helps, but I think it does for most babies!
