We are heading into the mountains of Georgia for a family reunion in a few months. DH wants to buy two PNPs at the local Walmart, use them, and then return them on our way out. My mom is working on networking with my grandparents' old church to borrow some from people who live there. I think we should either pay to bring ours on the plane or ship them to my uncle who will be driving up.
What say you, nesties?
Re: clickly poll: ethical question
Wait, Rssn wants to buy two up there, use them and then return them for Walmart to resell? Am I reading that correctly?
Ditto. I'm sure y'all are a very clean family but would you want to buy a used PNP that you thought was new?
You are reading that correctly.
:::shaking head along with rest of nesties:::
I agree with all of this.
Ditto!!!!!!
This is exactly what I told him! He says we're spending enough money on the trip as it is, we aren't in a position to just buy expensive things and then donate them three days later.
Sometimes I think Chernobyl affected his moral compass.
last I was on a plane, baby items still went free so you wouldn't even have to pay for your pnp's to fly with you. I'd check with the airline.
That looks super cool! One of my friends has this that they used with their kiddo when he was a baby. They had to practice beforehand, but he learned that it was also a place to sleep and they used it until he was a little over two. So much more portable than a p&p.
This is what I was going to say, too. It would probably cost $100 to take yours with you (I'm assuming $25 for each PnP each way), and for that cost, you could buy two cheap ones at Walmart and feel good about giving them away.
We asked. Carseats and strollers are free. PNPs are not.
I didn't read all the responses, but my goodness, if others did what he's thinking of doing, then your new germ-free PNPs you get from Walmart are bound to be old and germy too!
So might as well just borrow and not go through the hassle of buying [edited for right word] and returning to Walmart.

this was perfect! i don't think DD would have stayed in a pnp at 2.5. i would think something like this would be so much easier.
If you can't find any to borrow, have you researched renting them? I know when we traveled to Denver to see DH's grandma, there was a few places that rented stuff like PnPs, exersaucers, etc. for a daily price. That might be something to consider.
I bought one of these for our cruise last summer (from Amazon on sale no less) and now we use it all the time when we're traveling. It's like a big pillowcase for the PnP. We absolutely love it. No spray or wipes, just pull it on over the entire PnP and then wash when we get home. It comes in its own travel bag, too. :-)
Just wanted to throw out a few more options.
I think I'm going to hound on him to be okay with borrowing. DD is not a climber (thank you babyjesus) and is quite content sleeping in the PNP still when we travel. She sleeps on a pallet on the floor at school, so I know she can do it, but she has a haaaard time falling asleep that way (probably just the stimulation of being at school, but still).
I'll show him all the options y'all linked and see if I can't talk him out of his unethical solution.
Thanks for the ideas, ladies!
I think, based on the way the question was phrased (WalMart can resell, anyway), Rssn is ok w/ this option b/c WM will get their money in the end. Maybe remind him that it isn't about WalMart. It's about the next family who comes in, thinking they are getting a new product, and buys your used one.
So, if he STILL thinks it's ok for another family to buy a PNP used by your family, then he should be a-ok with putting his own kids in one that was used previously.
So your husband thinks HIS kids are too precious to possibly sleep in a used PNP, but he sees nothing wrong with letting someone else buy PNPs his kids used, even though they were marketed as being "new"?
Do you even have to ask? That's incredibly tacky and unethical. You borrow from someone else, you bring your own, or you let them sleep with you in a bed or on a pallet on the floor. Buying baby stuff, using it, and then returning it is wrong.
