Safe workouts

I am 23 weeks and getting bored with my workouts.  Problem is I am limited on what I can do as that I have TERRIBLE hip that doesn't go away no matter what I try.  The treadmill is a definite no go for me now and have been doing the recumbent bike for a few days now.  Want to incorporate some strenth training back in as i'm carrying all in front and it's really taking a toll on my back.  Any suggestions?  And my gym doesn't offer pre-natal yoga and trying to workout at home is next to impossible, I have 2 cats and 2 dogs who are oh so interested in what I'm doing.  Help!

Re: Safe workouts

  • If your gym has a pool, that would be a great low impact workout. It's perfect for building long lean muscles and will help take some of the pressure of your back and not irritate your hip.

Of course, walking is always a perfect go to when all else fails.

  • Does your gym offer any strength training classes? You can always take a class and modify as needed. What about the elliptical for cardio?

  • I feel your pain... I was always a runner and my fertility doc put a kibosh to that from day 1.  I have the option of different types of elliptical machines at my gym which is a nice work out.  Try updating songs on your ipod too to make things seem new.  I agree the swimming would be a nice low impact workout although I've never done it.  One thing I would suggest is the yoga.  It doesn't matter that it's not prenatal yoga as you can do a majority of the moves anyway.  I just told my instructor I was expecting and he lets me know if there's something I should defer from doing.  Yoga has helped me SO much with all aches and pains I would be lost without that option!  I hope that helps :)
