Re: Sometimes I wish I was Paula Deen

  • Haha! I totally eat butter like she does, which is no small feat considering I don't eat any bread or grains (aside from an occasional gluten free treat) but we cook with so much butter it always shocks the Trader Joe's checkers when I have like 5 pounds of Kerrygold in my cart. Butter and bacon pretty much make everything taste good :)

  • Ugh.  Can.Not.Stand.Her.

She is nothing but a selfish hypocrite masked as a good cook.

But, I agree, butter is delicious.

  • Hahaha!!!  Butter is delicious!  I watch her show whenever I can and I practically swoon whenever she makes something.  I wish I got the Cooking channel so I could see Bobby Deen's "Not My Mother's Cooking" show where he remakes her recipes with fewer calories, fat, etc. - but they still taste good...

And Ginger, I totally agree - butter and bacon = my favorite foods!

I could be wrong as I don't watch her show often, but how is she a hypocrite? I know she has diabetes, but did she ever say her food was healthy or good for you or say she was a dietician or health practitioner? I'm not defending her because I don't know for sure but unless she spent her shows talking about the healing properties of copious amounts of butter and sugar why is she a selfish hypocrite? Most of the things TV chefs create are unhealthy and most of the chefs are overweight and probably have undisclosed health issues due to their weight and eating habits. She makes it look tempting but she's not forcing anyone to eat like she does. If she outright lied and said she was healthy as a horse due to her diet then yeah, she sucks, but I can't hate her for saying butter makes food better, that's just a fact ;)

It's the making money from both ends that really bothers me.  She makes money promoting extremely unhealthy foods.  And now she makes money promoting a drug that treats one of the many diseases that results from eating those foods.

Maybe not a hypocrite, as she's totally forthright in her promotions, so that is not an apt description.  But she is a sell out and she does put messages out to the public that I completely disagree with.  The answer to curing diabetes is not a drug.  The answer (for most, and obviously only for type II, which is what she has) is a healthy diet and lifestyle.  I feel strongly about this as a close family member of mine is literally killing himself eating the kinds of foods she promotes despite his diagnosis of diabetes.  It is so sad.

I stand corrected, I had no idea she was advertising the drug, that is wrong. ITA that a healthy diet is preferable treatment for Type 2, my dad was diagnosed over ten years ago and has never needed any medication, he's managed it perfectly with weight loss and a good diet. I'm sorry about your family member, that's tough to watch someone do that.
