Progesterone Question

When did you go off progesterone? Did you taper off or just go cold turkey?

My RE's office never told me when to go off and I always forgot to ask before graduating. OB said 12 weeks just to be sure. She said 10 weeks would probaboly sufficient but to stay on until 12 just to be safe. But she never even asked me how much I was on. I see her day before 12 weeks so obviously I can ask her then, but I was sort of hoping to at least cut down to twice a day rather than 3 times before then. Obviously, I won't without doctor's permission...but I was just wondering what others are doing.

Most REs say anywhere from 10-12 wks, depending on how conservative they are. If your OB wants you to continue until 12, there's no harm in it, but you can probably safely cut the amount down at 10 wks since your placenta should have taken over by then, and even if not fully ramped up, will at least be contributing some to your system.

I think I was right at 8 weeks when my RE had me stop PIO. I was super nervous about stopping, and asked my RE and OB about it multiple times, but they both kept reassuring me that it was fine to stop. I had been doing injections 1x/day, and went to every other day for maybe 1 or 2 times, and then just stopped. Baby's still thriving!

I stopped PIO cold turkey at 11 6/7 weeks according to my protocol. I've started getting headaches, but that's about it.

ETA: I've always just done 1 a day.

I was only doing 1 per day and then 200mg of prometrium at night. I switched to all prometrium at 11 weeks and off everything at 12. Cold turkey. It was like giving up a security blanket.
