We were put on a waiting list approximately 7 months ago at the leading autism center in our city to do a comprehensive eval for our 5 year old. I had pretty much given up on them at this point and thought they forgot about us. They called today! We will go March 13 for a one hour consult with a nurse practicioner. Apparently from there (in addiiton to a 10 page questionairre) they will begin referring us out for further testing. The woman I talked to to said after we get a dx they will help us determine a therapy plan and help us find ones covered by our insurance.
When they left the message I was scared and sad .I told DH if we get the dx there is no turning back and that scared me. Once I actually talked to them and she made me feel like she could point me in the direction we need to go in to help our son I felt so much better. It was a sigh of relief. Like DH said, "it will set us free."
Can anyone share your experience with getting an ASD diagnosis? Does this sound familiar?
Thank you!
