We are planning to fly to Cali in May...it just hit me (last night) how different it is going to be traveling with a 7 month old as opposed to just myself and BF....YIKES! I'm getting anxiety just thinking about it!
BF's parents are going to buy a car seat so we won't have to fly with that. I'll probably send money and have them buy formula and diapers ahead of time so we won't have to travel with that either.
The other 2 large items....play pen and a stroller. We have a travel system type of stroller (from the sweet pea line from Target) but I'm guessing it'd be easier to buy a light weight stroller- yes? Do you have one you recommend?
Re: best stroller for travel? (flying)
For diapers, wipes, etc when we have traveled we place an order with diapers.com and get free 2 day shipping to the place we are traveling. It makes it super easy and has worked well all the times we have done it.
The first time we traveled with DD (at 8ish months) we bought a Maclaren Quest and it has worked perfect. Super lightweight, but extremely durable and it has 4 recline positions so she is able to fall asleep very easily in it.
do you need a stroller once you get there? if not, I definitely wouldn't take one just for the airport, especially since there are 2 of you. we have a city mini that is great, but it's our only stroller. if you're looking for a second stroller, I'd just get a little umbrella stroller. $20, folds up super small, you can even put it in the overhead usually instead of checking it.
do you plan on visiting them often? it's super easy to travel with your infant car seat (you can check it for free when you check in - you don't even have to haul it around the airport with you). we're getting ready to move to the convertible this week and will have to travel with it at the beginning of march. not looking forward to that at all.
I'd rather them spend the money on buying a pack-n-play for her, so that you don't have to carry that around. THAT would be a pain.
depending on how long you'll be there, you can buy some dipes on amazon and have them shipped there. if it's just a short trip, we do it like you said - have my mom buy formula and dipes before we get there.
That thought crossed my mind. We will be going again for Christmas and at least once next year. I'm thinking they can buy a convertible car seat that she can use when she is out there and I'll buy a pack-n-play for $50 or so that can stay there as well.
sounds pretty similar to what we did with my parents in Indiana. I ended up getting one a convertible car seat on woot and having it shipped there, so that will be her seat for a while (I think it's 50 or 65lbs), and then a relative had a pack-n-play for their grandkids that they don't currently need, so we're just kind of permanently borrowing it until they say they need it again (their grandkids are too big, but as soon as they have another one, I'm sure they'll want it back). That might be another option as well, if they have any friends that also have grandkids or something. chances are that grandparents don't need their PNPs very often.
