Re: Crinone vs. PIO??

  • Oh and FWIW I work in a medical practice so M-F I could have one of the nurses there do the PIO injection for me and would only have to have DH do it on the weekends.

  • I am really looking forward to reading others' responses -I was initially ordered Crinone for my cycle this month (we're using DE) but then when the nurse saw it she was pondering why they didn't order me the injections... she made reference to the Crinone not being as effective and I am all for withstanding the pain/inconvenience of injections if they are more effective and could cause a better outcome for us!!

  • I think that I am the odd person when it comes to this question but i HATE PIO! I had 2 IVF's and used PIO and now this go round for my IUI i am using Crinone. I feel that is so much better and not a constant PAIN IN MY BUTT literally. I had the worst welts and bruising with PIO. I also had the worst headaches on PIO. Also after my two BFN's my bottom still hurt and was brusied for weeks, a constant reminder that I did not get prego.

With Crinone, I had 2 days with headaches and then NO OTHER side effect. I never have had discharge, nothing! I take mine first thing in the morning and my DR says when you do it this way you move around alot and then the medicine is aborbs into you quciker. Again i know that all of this is a personal choice but I have been so happy to be on CRINONE.

  • It's definitely a personal choice. There was a head-to-head study of Crinone vs. PIO for IVF and both were equally effective. I had no problems with Crinone at all. I never had much discharge, no irritation, no bleeding. But I know some people feel more comfortable with PIO because it is better detected in the blood so levels can be monitored. I don't think it really matters which one you take. If you hated Crinone, try PIO. Good luck!

  • If you know you hate crinone, and are getting used to injections, why not try PIO?The first few times, the needle is intimidating, but once you get used to it, it's very quick and you don't have to think about it exept for those 10 minutes.

I've never used crinone, just PIO and prometrium. I would prefer PIO ot 3X daily prometrium.

Thank you for posting this... I was doing a lot of reading tonight and on many counts, although messier, the Crinone is able to deliver the hormone directly to the uterus where it is most needed, even if it doesn't show up as adequately in bloodwork like the PIO. I'm going to stick with my doctor's original directions and keep my fingers crossed for the best.
