help w/ preschool valentines?

This is our first year in preschool so I'm new to what is typically done for Valentine's day.  We got a list of the kids' names in the class and we were asked to bring a valentine for each kid.  I was going to just address some princess valentines for each kid and then maybe make cupcakes for the class.

But I always see other moms posting all these cute ideas for valentines they are making for their preschoolers and I am worried I will be the only mom that does not hand make the valentines in some super cute pinterest fashion.

For all the experienced preschool moms - does anyone just use store-bought valentines for the kids anymore?

Yep. They sure do. Jack has 10 kids in his class and maybe 2-3 were hand made each year. Most have something attached (pencil, lollipop, chocolate).

  • I fully expect store ones! I only did the photo ones bc I didn't want to go out and buy the stuff to make the circle holders for the hearts :)

  • Absolutely!  I think the parents who make cutesy crafty things are in the minorty.

    :-)

  • I just bought mine, but they are super cute.  I did make some of the heart shaped crayons to go with them though, but only because it was really easy to do and I just used dollar store crayons.
  • This is the first year I have actually gotten it together to remember to do Valentine's and that's because Ben's teacher sent me a reminder. We're just to bring enough for the class and only put Ben's name in the "From" field.

I am definitely a crafty person, but I'm not spending my time on a crafty for 12 four year olds that will be toast by the end of the day. Lightning McQueen store boughts all the way!

Also we can't do any kind of food gifts, candy, cupcakes, etc., so that takes a bit of fun out of it.

ditto for both years Abby was in preschool.

*Edited to add- I would check with the teacher before bringing any food, cupcakes.  A piece of candy or stickers is usually attached to most cards, but I know all of Abby's teachers have always want to know/approve when food is coming into the room.

  • yay- thanks!  And good point, need to check w/ the teacher on the cupcakes.
  • I let the boys pick their valentines from the store. We have Tonka trucks and Dora. I got them some stickers and let them go to town. They're store bought but very um.."creative." The boys are extremely excited about them :)

  • Oh, and very good point on not spending a lot of time being crafty on 4 year olds. ;)  I made J's because I saw some similar for $$$ online and thought I could do that in photoshop! :P  It took me 2 minutes messing around and J got a huge kick out of them. And Abby now makes her own.  I definitely would not spend much time on them because they WILL end up in the trash. (the card part that is)
  • I let Em peel some crayons and smash them with a mallet. She spread them out over wax paper and I melted them over another sheet of wax paper. Then I cut them into hearts. It took about 10-15 minutes. She had a blast and it didn't cost anything (we had everything). I wrote to the person and she signed her name with a sharpie. I am attaching it to playdough but that's another story.
