So I also had to go to the L&D this weekend and at one point I thought we were going to have our baby yesterday. Around 9 pm on Saturday I started to have regular strong contractions but I thought they might just be the stronger BH contractions I get at night so I drank some water and tried to rest. Around 12am I could not fall asleep and I noticed they seemed really close together so I decided to time them for an hour. As I was timing them I noticed they were consistently 3 min.s apart. I really could not believe what was happening so I waited a few more min.s to see if they would slow down at all, they didn't so I called my OB and he said to come in. When I got there they hooked me up and started to monitor me.
Baby looked great but I was having strong contractions 2 min.s apart. When the nurse saw that she said she was going to check my cervix and if I still was not dilated, like I was at my last appointment, we would be fine. I would just be given some meds for the contractions. When she checked me I was a little over 1 cen. dilated and 50% effaced. So the nurse called the doctor to see what he wanted to do because I was 35 weeks and 6 days. When she was gone DH and I started to think, are we really going to have this baby tonight, why is this happening now? (I have had no medical complications with the pregnancy at all, just a minor car accident at 30 weeks but the contractions from that were resolved that week).
Because I was just less than 36 weeks my OB decided to see if we could stop the contractions and if we did, than to see if that would get me to stop dilating. So they gave me a muscle relaxing shot and some fluids. An hour later the nurse checked me again and she said I had not dilated anymore and the contractions became irregular so she said my OB said I could go home but to follow up this week with them.
My
appointment is on Wednesday and I am still wondering why that happened. The
nurse said she was really not sure why since I have not had any complications,
my OB seemed a little confused by it too. I am still having strong contractions
but they are irregular so that is good. I guess I will just have to wait until
Wednesday to see if anything has changed. Sorry this was so long ![]()
