Big cyst in my ovary. Might lose it. Boo.

Anyone have a cyst burst?  I hear it's painful but just want to know what I might be in for.  It's 7 cm and inside my ovary which is why I am tender to the touch and to move.  They scheduled surgery for next Wed if it doesn't shrink by then.  They will check it on Tuesday first.

I'm hoping it shrinks.  Or just bursts and is done with.  But there's a chance it could burst and twist my ovary which would require immediate surgery. And even the surgery without it bursting first can't guarantee I won't lose it either.

I'm glad I know what is causing the pain but I'm not glad I might have surgery.  I'm also not good at waiting around to be in "excruciating pain" as I've been told.  Errrr.

  • No fun!

My sister had a HUGE ovarian cyst- i'm talking the size of a basketball (yes, her doc missed it year after year! WTF?)... anyway- it took over her ovary - but she got pg with just one ovary- twice - with no problems.

    good luck!!

  • Keep us psted. I pray it shrinks like right now.

  • I was thinking about you earlier.  Mine was operated on shortly after it burst, and fully drained.  They deemed my left ovary non-functioning.  I was 14, so obviously I still work!
  • co--was the bursting itself as terrible as people tell me?  I've given birth, suffered through gallstones, and had pancreatitis (which I thought was hands down worse than giving birth).  I'm hoping this doesn't quite make the list.

They gave me Motrin 600 to take when I feel the pain coming on.  I'm just nervous now that it is going to pop in the middle of the night.  Will I get any warning or does it go from zero to 60 in no time?

  • Aw, I'm so sorry you are going through this!  I don't have any advice but I hope you don't have a lot of pain or lose your ovary :(  Hugs!
  • If it bursts, you'll have a lot of pain, and then it will go away unless it is a hemorrhagic cyst and/or twists when it bursts.  They suck and they hurt.  A lot of the time they can save part of the ovary.  Hope that yours shrinks on its own, and doesn't burst before they take care of it.
