rec. your nursing bras

I am completely lost in the world of nursing bras/tanks. I tried a few on at Target but they were terribly uncomfortable. I haven't had time to look anywhere else, but plan to make a point of it this weekend. I really need a few new bras to get me through, but don't want to spend money on a regular bra I am only going to wear for a few months, and figure I should just go right into the nursing ones now.

I am a small B pre-pregnancy, and am estimating I am a full C right now if it matters.

  • I used Breakout Bras:  https://www.breakoutbras.com/category/Pregnancy-Nursing-and-Breastfeeding

They have a pregnancy and breastfeeding store online. They were really awesome about knowing the fit of the bras when you talk to them, and about handling returns when you'd try something on at home and it wasn't fitting.

The bras I have from them worked really well. I have larger breasts, a pre-pregnancy 34G, and the Le Mystere brand worked really well for me.

Hope it helps - the right bra means so much while nursing!

  • I went from a 34DDD (pregnant) to a 34G (when my milk came in) do not shop for anything now! Buy something cheap like the nursing tanks from Old Navy for the hospital and just wait until your milk comes in.

I loved the Bravado nursing tanks. They are a bit pricey, but I wore them EVERY day for 6 months so I justified their cost.

  • I'd agree that it's better not to buy anything right now. With my first pregnancy I got a couple of nursing bras before DD was born, and they turned out to be too small once I started nursing. (I was a B pre preg, and went up to a D).

Bravado nursing tanks are the best. I live in them, and you might even be able to wear them as maternity clothes, if you decide to get something now. Gilligan and OMalley at Target are a lot cheaper, and the best knock-off's I've found.

I wear the tanks a lot more than the bras.

  • I LOVED the Bravado silk nursing bra - even though I didn't nurse that long. It was comfortable, supportive and not even horrible looking.

Also the Medela sleep bra will get you through the first couple of weeks and it just comes in S,M, or L which was easier to guess at than an actual bra size.

  • Thanks ladies! I might just buy some cheap regular bras for the next few months. I haven't grown since first tri, so I would hope  (knock on wood) I wouldn't again until my milk comes in.

One of my friends who is also small chested to begin with told me her tales of when her milk came in, so I was forewarned about the growth!

I have a couple of these and I love them.  Comfy enough to sleep in too!  I bought them at Macy's after my milk came in.  Went from a B/C pre preg to a DD and now more like a D since I don't get engorged much any more.  I hated the nursing bras that I tried on at Target too.

  • Target now sells Bravado bras - and those are my favorite.
