C-sections

RCS Mamas

My friend's OB told her that 9 out of 10 women go in to labor on their scheduled RCS date on their own.  I find that hard to believe, but wondered how many of you did?  This same friend did go in to labor on her own the morning of her scheduled RCS but had been on meds/bed rest for a couple of months to stop labor.

  • Most of the girls I know that had rcs did not go into labor on their own beforehand. I didn't with DS2 but I was late with DS1.

  • I was trying to vbac with DD2 so my rcs was not until almost 42 weeks and I still did not go in to labor before then. I think I cook babies a little longer than most people though because I went way overdue and was induced with DD1. Of my friends that have had rcs 2 out of 4 have gone in to labor prior to thier scheduled date. However, both of them had gone in to labor prior to 39 weeks with thier first too.

I was induced at 41 wks with DD1, so I'm assuming I'll go the duration with this one...but wouldn't mind an early arrival if she's ready!  50% chance from your knowledge...I'll take those odds!

  • With DD I was induced at 41 weeks which ended up in a c-section.

With DS I had a scheduled c-section at 39 weeks, no labor.

With this baby I will have a scheduled c-section at 39 weeks, and as of right now, no signs of labor.

  • Ive never heard of this! But I did go into labor the night before my scheduled c/s and it ended up being moved up.

  • DD1 was unplanned c/s.

DD2's RCS was scheduled for 39 wks ?days and I went into labor at 33 wks 5 days.  Apparently she didn't like the date I picked out.

I haven't scheduled my RCS for the twins yet (hospital policy won't let me schedule more than 2 wks in advance), but doubt that I'll make it to our goal of 38 wks as I've already been hospitalized for PTL. I am now on strict bed rest, still having contractions and am about 1/2 cm dilated.

  • That seems like a really high stat. On the other hand, a study (I think I read it in "Do Chocolate Lovers Have Sweeter Babies?", which is an awesome book for science-interested pregnant ladies) showed a statistically significant greater number of births at the end of December. The theory was that women who were due in early January may have subconsciously influenced early labor to get the tax deduction. ;)
  • That sounds high.  I was shocked, though, when my water broke five days before my scheduled RCS (c/s set for 39w2d but I went into labor at 38w4d) - I was induced at 41+ weeks and zero progress with DD so I totally wasn't expecting to go early with #2.
