1) Feeds whenever he's hungry.10oz with neosure & oatmeal (only way he doesn't) vommit. But remains crying, because he's to hungry? Isn't that enough?

2) Dislikes tummy time, vommits while being on tummy?

3) Hernia, slightly going down on its own , will tape help?

4) rolls slightly, bearly neck support. Only wants to eat & sleep?

5) Can bearly reach for anything?

Re: 5 1/2 Month Old Preemie. Advices?

  • If he cries while eating and while on his tummy, have you had him checked for reflux? Or maybe an allergy to the neosure?

When you say he can barely reach for anything and barely has neck support, that seems like a concern to mention to your doctor. Since he was 9 weeks early, he's about 3 1/2 months adjusted? It's hard to know what you mean by "barely," so mention it to your dr so he can see. If you get the feeding and tummy time stuff worked out, that will help him develop those neck muscles.

  • For an inguinal hernia, he probably needs surgery but it's a matter of when the surgeon thinks its necessary.  My son had surgery on both sides before we left the NICU.  For umbilical hernia, they should close on its on over time, but eventually if it doesn't he'll need surgery for it too.  My son also has an umbilical hernia remaining but we're hoping as he grows it closes.  Its gotten smaller but its still there and he just turned a year.

  • 1) 10 oz a day?  Or 10 oz a feeding?  Seems like your feeding him way too much or too little?

Sounds like your child could have reflux also.

  • 1. 10 oz at once is too much.  Talked to your pedi how much is too much for their age.  When we thickedn Andrew's milk he would keep eating and eating so we had to cap him at 8 oz.  (before thickening, he wasn't eat hardly at all.)  Overeating is common with reflux.  Discuss this with your doctor.

     2. Maybe reflux, this is what my first son did, he had reflux

    3. no tape.  It might close on its own it might not.  make sure it doesn't get a blockage by pushing it in periodically.

    4. They are only 3 months adjusted?  I'm not sure about the neck support...that sounds like they should have more than what you are desribing.

    5. I think it's too soon to worry about that
