Those that recently weaned?!?

So, how did you do it?  I am officially down to early morning (5am), nap time (on my days off), bedtime and at about midnight.  I weaned her down to that two weeks ago.  She adapted easily to me redirecting her when she wanted to nurse throughout the day.  The next to go will be morning nursing.  But what worries me is the nursing before sleep time--omg, I am scared.  How did you ladies do it?  I hope for smooth transitioning, she falls asleep at daycare without nursing, she fell asleep with the babysitter at night without nursing; so she can do it...she just chooses not to when I'm around Tongue Tied

Re: Those that recently weaned?!?

  • I haven't 100% weaned. I'm down to early A.M. and bedtime but for the other sessions I just didn't offer. He got milk in a sippy and never really asked to nurse (except last week when he was sick and I let him because nothing else was making him feel better). Last night I wasn't home at bedtime for the first time and DH put him down no problem and he STTN until 6. I had a feeling he was going to drop that bedtime session next because he doesn't really nurse for a long time but it's more just to calm him down and signal bedtime. So I think we'll phase that one out next. The early AM one is more for me than him because it usually means I get to go back to bed for an hour or two! lol  But I think once I commit to weaning that one I'll offer milk in a sippy instead.

  • For naptime I just didn't offer, she just went down for her nap at the usual tome no nursing. The early am one I held on to for the exact same reason. I posted below about how I gave that one up. Good luck.

  • I dropped one session at a time - maybe one a week. The last session of the night was the last to go.

The first night without nursing we just went through her bedtime routine but instead of snuggling on the rocker and nursing, I just kept standing with her for a minute or two. She had her head on my shoulder and I hugged and kissed her, said goodnight, then just put her down in her crib. She was totally fine.

We've been able to go back to taking a few minutes to snuggle on the chair again and she has never tried to nurse.

    Good luck!
