WDYT of Leo?

My husband and I are having a hell of a time coming up with a name for our third little boy.  Our other little guys are Brock and Alex.  On our short list right now are Gabe, Reid and Jude.

Last night my husband suggested Leo as an option.  I don't hate it... but I can't decide if I like it enough to name my child.  Thoughts?

  • I think it is a great nn.

    Love Jude!!

  • I adore Leo. Jude would be a close second, though.

  • LOVE this name, but I am biased as it's my late grandpa's name that we are contemplating using if this LO is a boy.

  • I love it! I also love Reid and Jude. All great choices, in my opinion.

  • I love the name Leo.  I think it works for all ages.  I also like Reid and Jude.
  • I like it!  But Reed is my #1 choice if we ever have a boy.

  • In general, I have a bias against nicknames as given names.  (So, I'd prefer Alexander to Alex, for example.)

So, I'd prefer Leo as a nickname for Leonardo, even though I don't particularly care for Leonardo unless your family is Italian.  Similarly, I'd prefer Gabe as a nickname for Gabriel, etc.

Of the choices on your list, assuming those would be the given names, I like Reid best (although I like it more if it's really a family name for you).

If had to rank the names Reid, Leo, Gabe, and Jude, it would be in that order.

I think Leo "goes" with your first two boys names, and I think that Leonardo DiCaprio has lent the name Leo some street cred (in a good way) :-)

  • I love Leo, but there was a really snobby guy named Leo who also worked in the restaurant where I met DH, so I can't use it without thinking of him. I love Jude as well. and obviously I love Gabe, its DS's name. I am not so crazy about Reid, nothing wrong with it, just NMS.

  • I think Leo is a good name, but it's NMS.

My favorites out of your other choices are Jude & Reid.

  • LOVE Leo. It'd be #1 on my list, if H didn't have an uncle by the same name.

I really like your other options as well. IMO, can't go wrong with a short, masculine name.

  • I LOVE Leo.  It is my nephew's name and he is named after my late grandfather.  That said, I have a Reed and that was always my favorite name.  My sister had Leo first and was pregnant (with her 3rd) at the same time when I was pg with DS.  She was due 3 mos before me and luckily found out she was having a girl (we were team green, but Reed was our chosen name).  She mentioned that she liked Reed (it is our dad's mn) and I told her that it was our #1 choice.  She was willing to find another name for me, but luckily ended up having a girl.
  • I love Leo.

  • I like Leo but I would choose Jude or Reid first. Gabe is nice too.

It is pretty obvious you like short names... here are some suggestions if you and H are still looking:

Ewan, Finn, Gage, Ike, Liam, Owen, Quinn, Rhys, Ari, Ami, Evan, Rowan, Silas, Luke, Simon, Dylan, Wyatt, Jett, Max, Joel, Cade, Lane, Levi, Seth, Cole, Jesse, Heath......

    Good luck choosing!!

  • Love Leo! Would have been DD1's name had she been a boy :)

  • I love the name Leo!!  So cute for a little boy, yet very masculine and strong for a man.

I once dated a Leo, he was SO handsome but a jerk (and I wouldn't be surprised if he turns out to be gay)... but, boy, was he good looking!!  haha

Anyway, I love the name Leo!!
