Cradle cap?

When does it stop? I did the whole baby oil, scrub, then shampoo thing. I thought it was gone,  but about a week later it's back. Does it just keep happening?

Re: Cradle cap?

  • Yes, it can. It's caused by overactive oil glands/hormones. It just takes a while to balance itself out. I'd just start doing the oil thing again - maybe even try olive oil instead of baby oil.

  • Our doctor said to try using a shampoo like Head and Shoulders or Selsun Blue. We did and it's helping. She said its no harsher than Johnson and Johnson, which is apparently a really harsh shampoo...

  • Yup it'll come back and keep coming back. LO has it and it gets on his ears and face as well.

We were told to use selsun blue and leave it on for 5 minutes then wash out. For his face we use a hypoallergenic lotion twice a day and hydrocortizone.

  • We used olive oil with DD1 and will with DS. I let it soak in for a while then do a vigorous brush. DD didn't like it but we didn't have to repeat.

  • I'm dealing with the same thng. I thought it was gone. I washed my baby's hair last night and some more of his hair came out. This has realy upset me, cause I feel like as a mother I'm not doing anything right to prevent his hair from falling out. I didn't put the oil on his head first. I washed first, then put some oil on his head. This is really bothering and upsetting me. I wanted him to keep all his hair. I guess I will keep trying. I'll try olive oil next time.
