We BF and I've started to pump and give DS a bottle like ever 3 or so days. I only pump once or twice a day and I usually keep 4 oz in the fridge in storage bags then freeze whatever else I get from pumping that day. But I think that using BM storage bags to keep milk in the fridge is a waste of the bags and money.
Could I store the pumped milk in the bottle (Playtex Drop In's) with a lid on them and keep it in the fridge?
I would think it's like the same thing as keeping it in bags... but I'm just wondering.
TIA!
Re: Storing breastmilk in Playtex Drop In's (RePost Nov '11)
I don't pump very often but when I do I put it in a bottle and store it in the fridge. I put my BM in the bags if I know I will be freezing it.
After pumping, I put a lids on the bags (about three oz in each bag) and put in the freezer for the babysitter the next day. The next morning, I take the lid off and slide the other part down and off of the frozen drop in so I can use it to pump with that day. I then take the frozen BM (no lids) and put into a sandwich baggy and either put back in the freezer, or put in the diaper bag for the sitter. When I get to the sitter's house, she takes the frozen BM out and lets it sit out so it can thaw to use that day.
To answer your question, yes I think it would be the same to just store in the bottle as long as you have the bottle lid on top of the nipple to prevent contamination.
