Breastfeeding

Hello new to the board

Just had my first baby on dec. 7th! Breast feeding was a little difficult at first, she was really good about latching on but I just wasn't producing enough for her. So I had to supplement with formula :( . Eventually my milk came in and now we are just rolling along. I do give her on ocassional ff bottle... Well dh does when she hungry and I'm not around. I just started taking night classes. I want her to be breast fed but I'm having trouble building a stash. And for some reason DH thinks its easier to make her a formula bottle than to just reheat my BM. Any suggestion about how to get DH on board?

My baby's farts are super super smelly and she only has a bowel movements every three days. The last one she had was green should I be worried since her poop is usually yellow?

  • Hi welcome & congrats!!

One good way to build up a stash is to wait 20-30 minutes after your baby's first morning nursing, then pump since your supply will be higher in the morning.  Add this session in for a couple of weeks and you should have a nice stash built up so your husband can provide the milk to your little one while you're in school.

Breastmilk really is the ideal food for babies especially this young, and there's a lot of great information out there - if you can show your husband some information on how breastfed babies are sick less often, for example, do you think it would help him understand why you're so committed to it?

Otherwise, since you said you're not having any issues supplying her with milk for now, I would just get the formula out of the house so he's not tempted to use it instead of the milk you work so hard to give her!

    Good luck!

  • I agree with getting the formula out of the house.  Also could you pre make your bottles and have them in the fridge ready to go for him?  This would be easier than having him thaw milk and for surly easier than making a formula bottle.  The more fomula that is fed to baby the more your supply is not going to keep up with babies need.  Maybe talk about this and the fact that formula is crazy expensive and bf is free!

  • Should u pump both breast in the morning. Usually I just feed her from one breast at a time. What to you recommend for freezing storage?
