Eco-Friendly Family

What should I be reading?

Can anyone suggest a good book that gives an overview of many of the parenting practices mentioned on this board?  Not so much the Attachement Parenting stuff, as I have books in that area but more along natural cleaners, medicines, cloth diapering, etc.  I am finding more of my clients as a postpartum doula are trending to the more eco-friendly practices and I want to make sure the information I give them is eveidence based.  Thanks!

Re: What should I be reading?

  • I got a great book from my Mom, "The Econ-nomical Baby Guide, Down-to-Earth ways for parents to save money and the planet" by Joy Hatch and Rebecca Kelley. It has a large section on cloth diapering, buying used to save on waste and save money, what you do and do not need.  It mentions some things to splurge on, like an organic crib mattress, and has a paragraph on making your own cleaners with baking soda, vinegar and borax.  I don't agree with everything in the book, but it does have some great suggestions.

  • I just for "Healthy Child, Healthy Wold" for $5. They also have free apps for apple and andriod with quick guides. Also the new "Changing Diapers" by Kelly wels, alot of diaper shops have been running specials with this book lately. Here is the thread from when I asked that question months ago, alot of great suggestions :]
