DD gave me strep...

But I'm not sure whether she has/had it herself.  A few weeks ago I thought she had a stomach bug and found out one of the girls at daycare had strep.  Her mom told me the girl was throwing up and that their ped. said that could be a symptom.  But DD seemed to feel ok when her stomach settled, so we never took her to the ped.  So how, two weeks later, do I have strep?  Other than DD's nose being crusty and some coughing at night, she's seemed pretty ok.  Either she's quite the stoic and holds up better than I do under adversity (meaning she had strep and got over it without antibiotics?), or she passed along the infection without managing to contract it herself.

Either way - this is the worst illness I've had in YEARS.  Strep is no joke.

Re: DD gave me strep...

  • I got strep in October and LO didn't get it at all. I am pretty sure he was the carrier.

    And yes, it was awful.

  • Yikes, I'm sorry. That sounds awful. I swear, this is the worst disease-ridden season in years.
  • Ugh, I had strep, like, 10 years ago and I'm still traumatized. Every time I get a little tickle in my throat I'm convinced it's strep and rush to the doctor for antibiotics. It usually isn't, but I'm super paranoid. Feel better. You have my sympathies.

Is that true, MPD? Because this is my first cold-flu season with a baby who is actually interacting with people, and I was really terrified that this was going to be the new normal for every cold-flu season. If this season has been worse for people than normal, I feel a lot better.

  • Ugh, I'm sorry. I can't remember the last time I actually had strep, but I had the worst sore throat ever last year and I swore it was strep, but the doctor said no. If strep is worse than that, I can't even imagine.

Don't you love how our kids share so well with us? Wink

  • Feel better.  Sore throats are no fun.  I had a terrible one about 5 years ago and it turned out to be mono.  I would get yourself checked out.

This year has been terrible, but I was assuming that it's because DD started pre-school (she had been in a small in home DC before).  The pediatrician assures me that every year gets better and that all of our immunities get strengthened.  I jokingly told her I am not sure we would survive till then.

  • Ugh. I'm so sorry. I hope you're better soon!

  • Oh no, that sounds terrible. Feel better soon! Did you have any symptoms other than a sore throat? I'm wondering what to look out for.

  • UGH! Feel better. Strep is seriously the worst! Nothing knocks me down quite like that. I love how it is so hard to teach kids to share - except their germs!

And we're still in the small in-home, getting junk through the girl whose brother is in his first year of preschool.  When DD is in preschool herself next year, I'm expecting it to be a little worse.

WNW - My throat didn't hurt more than the usual post-nasal drip soreness for the first day or two, but I was having this crazy pattern of alternating fever/chills (body-shaking chills when the Tylenol wore off, "only" feverish when the Tylenol kicked in).   I think yesterday the sore throat kicked in with a vengeance - where I almost wanted to cry every time I had to swallow because it felt like a knife in my throat.  It's like the flu on steroids :P

  • On behalf of all the split care families, my apologies.  Hopefully this makes for an easier time at preschool next year for you.

  • Feel better.  When I get strep, which thanks to my students I get at least 1-2 times a year, it knocks me out.  I can't get out of bed, chills, fever, EXTREME sore throat.  I usually miss at least 2-3 days of work.  DD had it last month, and we never would have known as she didn't show any symptoms, but I had her tested when she had a cold due to my niece having it and they were around each other.  I was waiting to get it and never did thank goodness.

  • I got strep like 10 years ago and (::knocks on wood::) haven't had it since, but it left quite an impression on me. I have never, ever felt so sick and miserable in my life...it was worse than mono. You have my complete sympathy! I hope your DH is taking good care of you!!!
  • Wow, that sounds completely miserable!!! Hope you feel better soon!!!

  • feel better soon! ice cream may be soothing

  • There's the kicker - cold makes it hurt!  (I'm turning into my DD who refuses to try ice cream!)  Thank goodness for hot tea.

And thanks for the sympathy.  DH has been great, working from home to baby me and doing what he can with DD (what she'll allow him to do, that is).  It could definitely be worse.
