We are working on baby #3, and to help the anxiety of the 2ww we are picking out baby names. Its fun and harmless so why not? right?? ANYWAY, we have absolutley NO baby girl names what so ever that we agree on, I prefer unique names and my husband prefers very traditional names for girls. For a boy we both love Jax. or Jaxx. not sure which way we would spell it. My husband wanted our first son to be Jackson, but I "won" with Jacob. He goes by Jake. Would Jake and Jax be too much? Its different "a" sound, but still. Also, does Jax work for any other name other than Jackson? Not that I hate it, just dont particularly love it. Not asking for any feedback on whether or not you love or hate Jax, but wondering which way we should spell it, and if it indeed is too much paired with a Jake, and also if it fits any other full names besides Jackson. And we would never ever spell it Jaxon. AND taking girl name suggestions as well....we already have an Isabella, who goes by Bella. And, No, before you ask or wonder, Jake and Bella were born long before I ever heard of the twilight series, so they are NOT named after that. tho i do love a sparkly vampire

anyway, not to get distracted. Help me please:)
Re: Jax or Jaxx
Yes, I do think Jake and Jax are too close for brothers...they have very similar sounds. But Jaxx looks ridiculous. Does the "xx" combo even happen in the English language?
Suggestions:
Boy--Max, Aidan, Henry, Leo, Holden, Cole
Girl-- Violet, Mia, Sophia, Ava, Penelope, Olivia
Yes, in porn movies. Please don't do that to your child. Jake and Jax are similar, but I think it would be ok, especially since Jake's real name is Jacob and could go by that some day. If you are going to use Jax, spell it like this please.
Neither.
If I ever need to hire an attorney or a doctor, I will probably steer clear of Dr. Jaxx. Please consider your child when he's 30.. not 3.
FTW!
I think Jake and Jax are far too similar for siblings.
I have to agree with PPs on not using "XX".
1/12/13 DD was born
4/9/16 DS was born
9/17 CP
6/23/18 BFP EDD 3/4/19
again I did not ask if you do or do not like the name, nor did I ask about your porn preference.
and as far as considering what my childs name will be like when she/he's 30, we first heard the name from an adult with that name, not a child. and shame on you for judging your doctor or lawyer by their name. seriously....
XXX does!
pretty sure i made it clear we were searching for a full name to use with Jax. I asked for options there other than jackson.
aware its a public forum, i just never understand the need for rudeness or snarky-ness. if you like it you like it, if you dont you dont, no need to explain your reasoning with snide opinions.
I prefer one x, but have seen it with 2 so that was why I asked.
I have no issues with this name, and for the recorded I would be fine going to Dr. Jax or hiring an attorney named Jax. I like it.
I'd go with the one x though.
I didn't get origionally from your post that your were also looking for a first name with the NN Jax. I like that NN but only as a NN and I can only think of Jackson as a first name for a boy with that nickname. i think Jacqueine or Jacque only as alternates. i like Jax much better than jaxx. I, like many people judge Dr.s and lawyers partially by their names (you don't want to stand out for the wrong reasons) so that is something to think about but if it isn't their legal first name, i think you have no problems either way. Good luck to you!
Here's what I found...
Jack is also a Dutch and English diminutive form of the name Jacob (Dutch, English, German, and Scandinavian).
Jack is also an English diminutive form of the name John (English and Hebrew).
Jack has 27 variants that are used in both English and other languages. Variants used in English include Jaac, Jaak, Jacke, Jackee, Jackey, Jackman, Jacko, Jackub, Jacq, Jacqin, Jak, Jake, Jaq, Jax, Jocko, and Siaki. The diminutive forms Jacki, Jackie, Jacky, and Jockey are other English variants.
Jac (Welsh), Jock (Scottish), Keaka (Hawaiian), and Seoc (Scottish) are foreign variants of Jack. Specific foreign variants include the diminutive forms Jockie (Scottish) and Jocky (Scottish).
And as far as the nn goes, I like Jax best. Hope this helps! GL!
Did you really just say "Shame on me" for judging your name? Seriously.. people judge. Get used to that.
I do think that Jake and Jax are too similar.
While NMS, if you ARE going to use the name Jax, I would only spell it with one X. Two is superfluous and looks bad.
I think Jake and Jax (prefer this spelling) are too matchy for a sibset. I also think Jacob and Jackson are too close.
BOYS - Nathan, Isaac, Daniel, Noah, Ezra, Reuben
GIRLS - Miriam, Leila, Elise, Naomi, Allegra, Lena
I also think Jax is way too close to use for Jake's sibling.
I am not a fan of this as a full formal given name, as it always reminds me of some type of bleach or cleaning product. It is okay as a nn for Jackson, but if you don't like that name, then you could always go to the Greek hero route and name him Ajax. Except that actually IS the name of a brand of cleaning products, so there's that.
And yeah, multiple x's in a name, like Jaxx, makes it look like you want your son to have a long and successful porn career.
oops, forgive me, I thought people judged their doctors or lawyers by their credibility, reputation, education and reliability. I guess i'm the only one.
i have never seen porn or know very much about it, but now that a few of you have mentioned it I guess the xx gives off an x-rated vibe. I dont want to do that to my kid! Still love Jax though, without the porn-y xx's .
finally some productive advice!
Right or wrong the judging happens. They're not trying to be mean, they're just concerned for your LO.
Anyhoodle. Personally I think that the double J sounds would be a bit much. It's kind of ....Duggar-tastic.
Also you shouldn't use Edward, since you already have a Jacob, and a Bella.
Leah
Penelope
Felicity
Portia
Azalea
Viola/Violet
Aurora
isla
I also agree that Jake and Jax are too close.
And for the love of God, please don't spell your child's name Jaxx, if that is what you decide to go with.
Chemical Pregnancy
lol i would never name my baby edward, no matter how much i like that character
and i just really like J names for boys-- but not in the obnoxious extent of the duggars.
and as far as concern for my LO....nobody needs to worry their pretty little minds about my babies, for I worry enough about them for all of us
I think it's way too similar to your son's name. I also really, really want to dissuade you from the double x. Frankly, it looks ridiculous.
If it's the sound of Jax you like, have you considered Max perhaps?
love olivia, but my DH does not.
My parents have a cat named Max, and I have some friends with little boys named max.
Oh, I see. You pick and choose the advice that you want and if you don't like it then people should keep their opinions to themselves...
FTR: I hate the name Jax, no matter how it's spelled. I think it's a silly name. Apple Jacks, Cracker Jacks, Jax (the game)...It's a nn. Not a fn.
no, not so true. i thought this was good feedback because it really never even occurred to me, and now i get it, so i gave her the props.
IMO, Jax and Jake or Jackson and Jacob, are too similar for a sibset. If you use Jax, I think you should spell it with one x for all of the reasons already mentioned. Some suggestions for girls based on the names you've already used and mentioned:
Joli/Jolie
Lucy
Layla
Sydney
Sophie
Ava
Callie
Carly
Georgia
Gabrielle
Alexandra
Phoebe
Penelope
Daphne
Charys
hey thanks, i like Jolie and I like Sydney. LOVE Georgia, but there is a little girl in the twins preschool class named Georgia-Kate.
I like Jake and Jax for brothers, and I would spell it with one x
Jake and Jax are too close...and I know you said this was done without you knowing...but you already have a "Jacob and Isabella" which sounds silly now because of Twilight, so I wouldn't add the weird combo of Jake and Jax in there.
If you must use the name please no xx, it doesn't make an ounce of phonetic sense.
One more piece of advice OP, if you are considering a name that is going to go against the accepted spelling, google the name with the spelling of your choosing. Keep in mind that changing the spelling also changes the phoentics (how it is said), and may also mean something in another language.
Check out nymbler.com as pp suggested and/or test your names on behindthename.com.
ps. Aside from the Jacob and Jax/Jaxx/Jackson debate, they are really close, and if unique is what you are looking for, then stay away from Jackson and it's many forms, it's extremely popular. MJ Reilly has a link in her siggy for the consolidated rankings of names.
havent heard of nymbler...thanks!
Jake and Jax are WAY too close for siblings. Choose a different name.
/gavel
Jax and Jake are too similar. I would start over. But if you must, Jackson with the nn Jax or even John with the nn Jax would get my vote. "xx" looks silly and porn-ish.
As for the "shame on you" for judging a professional by their name, I think you need to get with reality. People make snap judgements by names all the time. It just is what it is. In a perfect world would this happen? Maybe not. But we live in a world where we have to prove ourself on paper all the time.
Watch this for an example of how this happens. While this clip discusses "African American" names vs. "white" names, the book discusses spellings and names that look less sophisticated. Jaxx doesn't look sophisticated, so whether you personally approve or not, his prospects won't be as bright (all other things being equal) than a John or a Jacob. It is just pure economics and fact. Whether it is "right" is moot. So a Dr. Jaxx or a lawyer named Jaxx would likely have a disadvantage built in. Sad but true.
