I waited too long...

and now can not get my rings off!  My knuckles are swollen so the rings aren't too tight on my finger but they will not go over my knuckle.  I've tried everything.  Should I be worried about keeping them on?  I can still twist them around pretty easily but I dont' want to wake up one day and see my finger purple.  I'm freaking myself out.  I guess my only solution is to have them cut off?

Anyone else still have their rings on and can not take them off?

  • Try not to stress because it will raise your blood pressure and make your fingers swell more.  Drink lots of water, you may have had too much salty stuff yesterday or today.  Also, try to take them off first thing in the morning, usually swelling is less then and run your hand under cool water, my hands tend to swell more when I'm hot.  HTH!

I agree with these suggestions.  Also, try some oil or lotion.  In any case I'd wait until first thing in the morning.

  • Sticking your finger in ice water may help reduce the swelling as well.
    Pass the sheet cake.

I was going to say to go outside and throw snowballs for a while, but this works too :)

Definitely all of this and the soak in ice-water, too!

Try it again tomorrow morning, and good luck!

  • My fingers started swelling back in November. It was to the point, like you, I couldn't get them off my finger. I soaked my finger in ice water, then used a bunch of lotion to slowly get them off my finger(and I have three different bands.) If you have multiple bands try and remove one at a time and bend your knuckle ever so slightly when trying to remove them. Good luck!!
  • Thanks Ladies...my husband recommended taking them off 2 months ago.  And of course...stubborn me was determined to keep them on the entire pregnancy.  Wish I had listened to him!  I am going to try again first thing in the morning w/ the ice and oil suggestions...pray that I am successful!

  • Mine are actually the most swollen in the morning and the least at night.  I would try tonight and in the morning just in case you are someone like me.

  • yes ( re PP). Definitly try at night.  I sometimes had trouble getting my engagement ring off even before the BFP.  Eveening is so much easier, I don't know why.  One time I tried so hard to take it off in the morning I actually bruised my finger, then I tried the next evening and I only needed a little lotion.

Also, there is a technique you can use with waxed floss that may be worth trying if it is just a specific part of your finger you are having trouble getting over.  Just make sure to keep an eye on your colour as it is wrapped as you will be impeding the circulation.

  • Mine are also more swollen in the morning - I cannot sleep in my rings for this reason.  Try keeping your hand elevated and maybe in ice or something - keep your fingers, etc. up.  I haven't had any pregnancy related swelling but my fingers swell when I go walking, etc. because my hands are down by my sides so if I keep them elevated that can help (yes I look funny but otherwise they hurt lol).  Anyway, just some ideas - ice water, lotion, elevation, and maybe try before morning.

    This is me, too.

When they are snug I can usually drink a bottle of water and pop them off.

They use windex at the jewelery store.
This. I also waited too long, and it took me 45 minutes to get mine off. I found a few tricks online, and the one that worked was putting tape above my ring, holding my hand above my heart for 10 minutes, then soaking in ice water and spraying my finger with windex before I started pulling. Still hurt, but it came off!

  • I don't know why I thought to try butter when I first read this while everyone else had normal suggestions. Anyways, mine started swelling a few days ago and so I had to take the rings off. Maybe drink some extra water and try to keep your hand elevated before trying to remove the rings. Hopefully you're able to get them off. GL.
