Do you babies have the same personalities in-utero vs outside?

I have a quick question for you MoM's...

Did your babies have the same personality traits before and after they were born? The reason I'm asking is our baby girl is a total ham and "show-off " already..or so I think. At every u/s she turns to the probe and smiles or becomes more active than before we start. But on the other side our boy hides his face and doesn't participate unless he feels like it..lol. They both are active about the same when we are at home, but when that probe touches down they act totally different.

Is this something I should expect when they arrive? This is my first twin pregnancy and it's all new to me! But saying that my DD was just like this little girl..total show off and still is..lol!

  • Yes, baby A was ALWAYS moving and kicking like crazy...he couldnt sit still!  Baby B was so quiet!  They are almost 11 months old and baby A still cant sit still.....ever!

  • I'm interested to see the responses! My baby a seems to enjoy torturing me by shoving his butt into my bladder, and kicking my hips with his strong feet. Baby b seems a bit more chill. She gets excited at times (like if I eat chocolate!) but a lot of time she just squirms. I can't wait to see what they are like when they get out!

  • Oh yes! My baby B jumped around like crazy and always showed her face to us via ultrasound while my baby A only gave us a glimpse of her face a couple times! I can't get my baby B to sit still, she is constantly moving and jumping! While baby A is much more relaxed! : )

  • I can't wait to find this out either!!!  I have 2 sons now who are completly opposites and I swear I can already tell the twins are going to be one of each ;)

  • I could easily buy that the babies? personalities are shaped in the womb and might display similar tendencies..

..but how would the babies know that there picture is being taken when you are having an ultrasound?

  • Well, babies don't know how to turn to the camera and smile in utero, but yes I do think my kids had the same personalities as far as being active and laid back. I hardly ever felt Baby B move. My NST lady told me he was the more active one, but I thought A was way more active. And sure enough my Baby A is a ball of energy and B is easy going.
  • Yes, but my girls didn't act any differently during u/s.  Caden was Baby B and had a low fluid level.  Now she likes to be snuggled and tends to be quieter and more sensitive.  Delaney was Baby A and all the room in the world.  She is definitely louder and likes to spread out when she sleeps.
  • I don't literally mean that she looked at us! Lol I meant my baby A just seemed to not move around as much so we couldn't see her face like my baby B! They clearly have no idea an ultrasound picture was being taken! Just had to add so you all didn't think I was nuts! : )

  • M (Baby A) constantly moved, rolled, squirmed, kicked. 6 months later, she loves to move, roll, squirm, and kick. She would curl up in a ball and bury her face when the probe touched her. She has curled up and slept on her side since day 1.

N (Baby B) loved to stretch out and constantly had the hiccups. 6 months later, she loves to stretch out and take up the whole crib and hiccups after every meal. She is the laid-back baby who didn't care if the probe poked her or not.

Twins are funny little people. :)

Ditto this exactly.  BUT, personality wise, B is a bigger whiner and baby A is a bit more mellow. Mellow but in CONSTANT motion.

  • This is so cool!! And I guess I should clarify she obviously doesn't know she's being looked at..it was just an example..lol Smile But I am getting so much more exicited and anxious to meet Lilly and Jacob (or Matthew...we haven't decided..yet)!! I love reading everyone's different takes! You all are awesome! These next few weeks can't go by fast enough! :)

  • Yes, they both never stopped moving and still don't stop.  Ugh, to put them back in for one day...just one day.

Mine too.  Baby A had much less room to move around because of the lower fluid level and his positioning deeper into my pelvis.  He's more of a snuggler. Baby B had extra fluid so he had plenty of wiggle room and was always more photogenic at the u/s.

  • Yes! Baby A was always moving and rolling and stretching out. He had the hiccups everyday! We called him our jumping bean and he is true to this outside. Baby B was much more quiet and he never flipped. He hated when I laid on my left side , he was on the left side of my belly, and would thump me until I moved! He is still the quiet one of the two, and really watches and studies us and his brother. It's crazy how different their personalities were inside and match the outside babies they are now.

  • Yep, so far they are.

Baby A was always more feisty when I was pregnant. He also had a higher heart rate and was always harder to find on the monitors. It was tricky to get him to cooperate on the ultrasounds too.

Now he's still the more high strung of the two. He's smaller, faster to cry and in general more finicky. Also he loves to look around and see everything that's going on. He's got quite a personality! Baby B just hangs out, gains weight quickly and is very easy going.  He just wants to cuddle and sleep.
