I was pretty sure we were going to register at Target, but after roaming around there last night in the baby section, it seemed that they did not have a great selection of strollers, carseats, swings, packnplays, etc. They seemed great for clothes, pacifiers, bottles and such. For the people that have registered there before- what was best to register for there, and what is their return policy like?
Thanks!
Re: thoughts on target registry?
I say thumbs down on Target registry
They have an awful return policy which makes it so hard after your shower. Trust me, you will have things to exchange.
Target requires a receipt and if you dont have one, they will only take 2 returns from you in a calendar year without one.
I think buying things at target yourself in which you have the receipt is fine though, i just would not register there.
The selection at BuyBuyBaby and at BRU are so much better for all items (even bottles, pacifiers) and the prices are comparable or identical. You really don't want to register for too much clothing anyway - because you will get so many gifts.
I love Target too...but I don't see the point in registering there, unless you have family/friends who are too far from a BRU or BBB.
I love shopping at Target for myself, but I have heard horror stories about their registries. My sister in law registered there and got so many duplicates at her shower because the registry wouldn't show when people purchased things. Also, the photos on the registry and style # didn't match up. And their return policies suck.
I had no issues with my Target registry with DS. I had stuff from there that I never registered for, so I added them to my registry and marked them as purchased. I was able to return them w/o a receipt with no issues. They only allow 2 non-receipt return transactions in a year, but you can return as many things in that transaction as you want. I think I ended up returning like 10-15 things and no one gave me any trouble.

You can return items only if it's on your registry and it's been purchased if you don't have a receipt or gift receipt - at least that's what they did for my wedding regsitry. I personally love Target but probably won't be registering there b/c of their return policy and I got a lot of gifts from there not on my registery so it was a pain for me.
I did the same for my wedding and DS. Now that baby registry was three years ago though so I would check with them about their current return policies specifically regarding registries. My DH worked there for over 5 years and they changed their policies so many times. When I was pregnant with DS, I even went and asked for the registry gun again so that I could scan more things to then go back online and mark them as purchased, and return them later. It wasn't a big deal at all. There were some things that people had purchased in the store that I couldn't find online so I did it that way. Also, I may be wrong but I didn't think the two returns w/o receipts per year counted with registries. I believe that is just when you come in and use your license.
In TX, their return policy is a $ limit. I think it's around $75 for the whole year that you can return without a receipt unless it's like something small under $6. I haven't been able to return anything since this past spring since my sis sent a bunch of clothes for my LO that were the wrong sizes. So I know this is still the current policy here. My DH has had to do any returns for me where I have lost the receipt since then.
So not only does Target's return policy stink, but registering now would be a waste of time for you & your guests unless your shower is going to be in the next 30-45 days. Target changes their style & UPC codes about every month or so. When I registered there, I could go in the store & find the exact same item but it wasn't the same price as showing on the registry nor was it the same UPC/style #'s when you looked on the back. Obviously I knew it was the same thing since I had picked it out but how would my guests know that. My little sister's shower was last month & she had the same problem.
My sis & I also had the same problem with things not coming off the registry too for whatever reason.
Target is okay to register at as long as you know what to expect & don't mind either waiting until closer to your shower to register OR checking everything each month so you can remove & update the stuff as it changes.
Great stuff to know!
