burning feeling under breast

I am 29 wks pregnant and been having on and off a skin burning sensation under just my right breast. There is no irratation or redness and it only lasts like 30 secs, but just weird. It happens like 5 times a day and at random times so don't know what causes it. Am I the only one???

Re: burning feeling under breast

  • I have that sometimes under my left one. I think it's probably a nerve or something.

  • Your tatas are en fuego!!!

My skin burns after I scratch because it is so dry. Ask your doctor about that one, and put some moisturizer on it. Maybe even Noxema. Works on sunburns.

  • If you have what I have had since about week 19 (and sadly, it only gets worse and worse) it's muscle separation and nerve pain according to my doctor! :( I have been in to rule out liver and gallbladdar and the only thing left is this. Mine burns NON STOP and to the touch it feels almost numb, but the painful ind of numb, whatever that means. About 2-3 weeks ago, it also started snapping. I would move real fast and it would make a noise, snap, and then it hurt so bad I would see stars. I describe it to my husband as someone stabbing me with a hot poker and when it snaps, it is like they take the hot poker and pull down on it. It's terrible and doc said there is nothing to do about it. Ugh....

  • I started with this at about 5 mo and it's gotten worse and sometimes it lasts most of the day (sorry!).  My dr said it's the ligaments tearing.  I never had it with my first and I described it as feeling like an "Indian burn" under my right breast...he didn't hesitate for one second with his reply.  It becomes so uncomfortable that it's distracting, making it hard to focus on work, etc.  But, unfortunately, there's nothing you can do about it  :-(

  • i had that from week 25 on constantly until he dropped.

when it's on the right side, it's just the ligament that holds your liver in place getting irritated from your liver moving. my doctor said the same as everyone else's "there's nothing you can do about it." he recommended an ice pack, but it didn't help. nothing did. he also said i could try the heat pad, but no longer then 15 min intervals and no higher than med and leave it off at least an hour in between those intervals. i even asked him if it could tear, because it got so bad i was crying daily from it - and he said no, it's not tearing it's just, for lack of better words, "VERY pissed off" and inflammed.

i spent most of my time in a recliner, kicked back, which seemed to help a little because it relieved the pressure off that area. walking hurt, and laying down/sitting hurt worse. being in the recliner in between laying flat and actually sitting was the only relief i got, which was minor.

sorry to bear the bad news! the good news is, after we give birth and things go back to normal, it goes away! my best friend had it, and as soon as she gave birth the pain went down 75% and abotu 2 weeks later, it was gone.

hope you find some relief soon!

  • I don't want to scare you, but my midwife told me pain under the right breast can be a sign of pre-eclampsia...left side is ok, but maybe not the right.  I would definitely call your doc and see what they have to say.  They will probably ask if you've noticed any more swelling lately...I hope it is just muscle/ligament pain and nothing more serious.  Good luck!

  • I'm so glad someone posted this! I've been having pain under my left breast for about two weeks now (I'm 36 weeks). I thought maybe it was being caused by my bra getting too tight but that didn't make sense that it was only on 1 side. I will say that when I take my bra off at night it feels much better!

This is what my pain is like I think.  It goes tingly, painfully numb by the end of the day and I have to go without a bra by the time I get home.  I'm almost positive mine is from my bra, even though I haven't been wearing underwire for over a month.

  • I've been having the same pain on my upper stomach, right under my left breast for the past 3-4 weeks.  It feels like a hot spot on my skin that is on fire and gets super itchy even though there is no visible irritation area.  My doc said the same thing - that it's just from stretching although she says having this on the right side is more prevalent.  I have some Bath & Body Works camphor/anti-itch cooling lotion that seems to help it temporarily.  It's definitely the strangest pregnancy symptom I've had so far!

  • Thanks everyone for the advice. I go see my dr in a few days so will bring it up to them.
  • I have the exact same thing and it is always worse at night, and even radiates heat off of my skin.  I asked my doctor and she had zero suggestions, besides promising that it would go away after I give birth:-(  I told her I get a little relief from ice packs and she said that is fine.  So, I quit wearing underwire and use ice packs constantly (especially at night).  I hope this helps!  It is the worst side effect I have had during pregnancy as well:-(

This thread is from two years ago so the OP is probably ok by now.

In any case, your doctor is right. My OB said it's the skin stretching faster than your nerves can keep up with and your nerves are basically in shock. Cold compresses and counter pressure are good. I've also found Palmer's Oil soothing.
