Alex has had a fever of 100.9 for the past few hours (already administered Motrin). When should I worry? He's been coughing and snotty all morning as well.
Over 6 months you worry when the fever is above 103.9 and isn't helped by motrin or acetaminophen within a few hours or if it lasts for longer than 24 hours. Also if he seems listless, pale, is vomiting or has other symptoms.

We ended up at the er the day after christmas with a fever. It had been over 102 for 24 hours and I just couldn't get ahold of our doctors office (holiday). So we went. They suggested everything hepcats said but also said to strip him down to his diaper to let him cool down. Ds liked that part.
Our LO was running a fever of 102.9 after shots and I was so concerned. LO's Dr. told us to alternated Tylenol and Motrin every 4 hours and that brought LO's fever down and fast! I hope your LO feels better.

Also, a little trick: if the fever doesn't respond to the motrin, instead of giving motrin again 6 hrs later, give tylenol. You can alternate between motrin and tylenol, and this is a really good trick to bring down a stubborn fever.
You can actually give Mortin (ibuprofen) and Tylenol (acetaminophen) at the same time, they don't interfere with each other. I've only had to do it twice when DD's had a fever of 103.5, she was in the tub for 1/2 the day (to keep her cool) so we called the pedi, and at least it brought the fever down to 100.5 without us having to keep her in the bath all day. The only down side is one is taken every 4 hours, the other is ever 6, so you are constantly giving meds.
Re: When should I worry? (fever)
100.9 is very minor.
DD was at 102.5 and the pedi said to give Tylenol.
They said hospital at 104 or 105.
